I just wanted to give an update on what’s going on with Lullabelle.

About a month ago, she was found to have a malignant tumor growing in her mouth. At that time I had it removed but the vet gave her only 3 weeks before it would grow back.

At that time i struggled immensely on what to do. Aggressively treat it or let her be? Last weekend Lullabelle’s symptoms of drooling returned and my heart instantly broke.

I took her into the vet’s last Monday. I spoke to a different vet this time as her regular vet was on vacation. This vet seemed to think that if we went in and got the new tumor, and removed the malignant tissues, we had a chance at defeating this cancer. I was ESTATIC.

We immediately set a date for the surgery – which was Friday. We had a couple of tumbles along the way (questionable xrays, but it was determined that it was NOT cancer, just old scars from a parasite she had before I got her).

It’s been hectic. Friday Lullabelle went in for her surgery and I was also in the process of moving. They cauderized(sp?) the cancer. Which means they went in with a laser and burned all the effected tissues. The tumors were wrapped around her teeth. They removed everything possible. Unforutnetly, they did not remove her teeth. The only remaining malignant tissues were inbetween her molars.

It took 2 vets and 2 vet techs to do this surgery. They spend a lot of time and gave a massive amount of effort. I am very grateful for this.

Saturday one of the vets called me personally to ask how she was doing and expressed concern. She stated that she felt she might have over did it, but was hopeful that the cancer was destroyed. She gave me her and the other vet’s personal cell phone number to call over the weekend in case there were any problems. She offered suggestions at getting lullabelle to eat.

Today, Monday, the other vet personally called me to ask how lullabelle was doing. I expressed concern about Lulla not drinking. I hadn’t seen her drink since last saturday. I took her in today to get intravaneous fluids. Lulla’s perked up some more.

Given that she’s had her mouth burned to a crisp, and gone through 2 major surgerys in a month and is batteling cancer, she is in amazing spirits. She has kept me up all night exploring, getting into things, and tearing up the carpet just like her old self.

I do not think i will put her through this surgery again. The amount of pain she is in is too much for me. She’s a brave girl, though. She’s strong and she’s got the will to live.

I am incredibly thankful for all the time i’ve had with lulla. She’s been a blessing in my life. I hope she continues to bless me with her life for years, but I am grateful for the time we have together now. I am so thankful for a team of vet’s who have been working so hard to save her and to make her better.

I just wanted to tell the world how grateful I  am that i have my little girl and she is such a fighter. <3

Darling wonderful Lullabell, she is a brave determined rabbit! I know its been very hard for Both of you, … so happy she has bounced back from Friday’s ordeal. I do think not Knowing its supposed to take them a long time to get better does help some times. I have thought of you both often since your last posts, and I’m so glad you didn’t just give up on her. I’ll be continuing to think of you and praying you do indeed share many more loving happy years together. She must love you very much, otherwise she wouldn’t have such a will to live and stay with you.

You poor dear. This is so very hard. Lullabelle is so very lucky to have such a caring bunny parent.

            How is her appetite?

Bunnies really are amazing sometimes, with what they can go through and still be full of spunk and spirit.

I hope she is with you for many more years as well. ((((((Lullabelle)))))) Please keep us updated on how she is doing.

Her appetite seems to be there. She’s not eating as much as I’d like her to but she’s been eating lettuce at a normal pace. She’s fought me with critical care syringe feedings, so i’ve decided not to push her as long as shes eating lettuce. i caught her eating pellets yesterday. i’ve put raisins in a bowl of critical care that shes been picking at. so for someone whose mouth has been burnt to a crisp i’d say she’s eating quite well! lol!
