So my pet rabbit, Bunny (yes clever name haha) has been pooping everywhere recently. I’ve had her for 6 years and sometimes she just goes on a pooping spree… Bunny is spayed and she marks her territory by rubbing her chin on stuff, so I don’t think that’s the problem. She’s on a regular diet and I didn’t modify anything that she eats. I need to get this resolved before we take her on our yearly plane ride (she has no problems with flying, she loves it!)

Just a little update, it seems like she only poops in her cage, she’s roaming now and she’s not pooping.

If she doesn’t go anywhere outside of her cage (or just one very rarely), this isn’t unusual. Some bunnies are truly diligent about only pooping in their box. But commonly, bunnies will keep all pee in the box, most of the poop in the box, and then leave some poops outside of the box as well. Usually this is just general territorial behavior – they know the cage/enclosure is their territory, but want to make sure that everyone knows it’s theirs. Just in case a bunny tries to come in, the poops are there to say “HEY! This is MY home!” which is also why they might leave a stray poop outside of their cage. Making sure the slaves home is also claimed from other bunnies.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, unless it’s literally just poop all over the place to where there’s no difference between the litter box and cage.

              Hey thanks for the info!

I checked if there’s a difference and I noticed a HUGE diarrhea on the floor, yuck! That might be the problem, any way to get rid of diarrhea?

What about anything else in her cage? Anything been changed.
Is her cage in same place it’s always been?

Or any new animals or people been in the house recently?

Diarrhoea is bad news. Is it really loose and watery or more like sticky poo?
If actual diarrhoea, she needs to see a vet.

Yes I’m certain nothing changed, no guests recently and I never changed the area of the cage.

The poop is like a mix of both… It happens once a month, we assume it’s because of age. Bunny’s acting fine at the moment, no change in eating or sleeping.

I just read you post in the intro section (a belated Welcome to you by the way!)

You mentioned you give yoghurt treats. How many would she have on average? Im asking because I’m wondering if they are contributing to this monthly soft poo problem.
I know they market these for rabbits but they are really not a good treat for them. (Sorry Bunny!)

(thanks ) Oh I usually give them once or twice a day. That must be the reason! I’ll try to remove the treats and replace it with a bit of banana. (I swear if bunny doesn’t get her banana she goes crazy and bites)

It’s worth a try but there are lots of reasons why they get yucky poo. Even teeth problems can lead to it believe it or not.
Has she seen a vet recently?
I know this isn’t what you were posting about but if she gets diarrhoea then something is up.

It’s okay, no she hasn’t been to the vet recently, I begged my parents to take her but they say it’s too much money… Yeah teeth problems can affect a rabbit a lot, bunny caught Pasteralisis because of teeth infections. I’ll try to get her to see a vet.
