Today, my hubby finished constructing the new bunny condo for our buns.  We rearranged the room, installed the new condo, and let the boys explore.

Boo seemed pretty happy – as he was binkying around the room.  I think he liked the extra space.  Then all of a sudden, he ran up to my feet, started scratching at my toes, and then nipped my toe 😮  He didn’t break skin – and I was a little surprised, since he seemed so happy.

Do you think he was just nervous with the changes to his room?  Or is he upset?

Here’s a pic of their new cage 🙂

Perhaps exhilarated? My bun will dig at and nip my mums feet when she comes to visit and it’s definitely not out of unhappiness. It actually seems to be quite the opposite, some sort of joyful greeting and a demand for pets and attention. It hurts though. But it also works because she then pets him and he melts.

I don’t think nipping like that, without breaking skin and without display of fear or anger (ears back and all that) is necessarily aggressive. It’s more like they want to say sth like “move over” or “pet me!” or perhaps just “hey, you, I do exist you know!”

What a clever husband you have for constructing a condo like this! Great inspiration!

Buns nip to communicate and like bam said, when they get excited! They don’t understand it hurts as they have fur to soften a nip in one another! He probably didn’t mean to hurt you

I agree with the others. Sometimes, if Olivia thinks I’m in her way or is just in a Diva mood, she will “dig dig dig” my clothes, feet, whatever and then bite. I just say “No” in a high pitched tone.

Thanks so much for your responses. It sounds like he probably wasn’t upset with me – which is good. And since I wasn’t in his way – either he wanted pets, or he was just in a “mood”. I’m going with the latter.

Bam: Yes – I’m so excited with our new bunny condo. The boys have not ventured to levels 2 or 3 yet….but I sure hope they will soon. When I bought them the 2 story maze from BB- it took them several days before they explored the 2nd level.

I agree with everyone else. It was probably excitement more than anything.
