Hi there I clean my buns cage on mondays and it seems like 2 days later it is dirty again with fur, hay, and from her chew toys. I was wondering how other people keep there rabbits cages clean for more than 2 days? thanks

I clean mine twice a day – I think you have to at the very least once a day.

You don’t have to fully clean the cage once a ay with cleaner and everything but you should be spot cleaning it at least once a day. This consists of picking up hay, scraps of chew toys, possible cleaning your litter box etc.

Yeah I agree with everyone here. With rabbits, since they are pretty messy it’s better to clean them every day. (spot clean at least).

                    Yes, spot cleaning!

Java has a hutch and the upper floor has plastic flooring, which is FANTASTIC for cleaning because I can just remove the hay container and litter box, then sweep everything up with a dustpan. It takes literally 2 minutes (I’m OCD so I have to get EVERY strand of fur). During that, my boyfriend dumps and cleans the box and refills the hay. If I do it all myself, it’s about a 5 minute job. Sometimes, Java will miss his box, so pee gets on the floor under the box. I have to pull that piece of the hutch out (it’s like a drawer type of design so it’s easy), then I do a deep cleaning with Nature’s Miracle.

Overall, the longest it ever takes to do a full cleaning, is about 20 minutes. And that’s when I have to deep clean the upper floor and vacuum the bottom (which is a foam flooring covered in sheets). The daily spot cleaning really is no more than 5 minutes at most. I just feed Java downstairs to distract him (he doesn’t get territorial, but just gets in the way – silly boy!) while I sweep up the upper level and scoop/dump the box.

I ditto everyone else. You’ll have to do spot-cleaning once or twice daily.

I fully clean litterboxes and vacuum the pen only 2-3 times a week, but every morning I use a cheapy hand vac to suck up stray poos, hay, cardboard pieces, etc… If they make a big mess, I’ll hand vac in the evening too.

With that said, it’s not entirely necessary to do this every day. The buns don’t care if there is hay strewn around, or a few stray poops. It’s more for my own desire for cleanliness than theirs! On occasion, I’ve had crazy days where I don’t get a chance to spot clean, and they’re not bothered one way or another.
