So I’ve been nervous about clipping Nigel’s nails and let them grow too long. I’ve finally developed a method that gets the job done and doesn’t stress the two of us out too bad. My question now is just how short should rabbit nails be? I know not to cut into the quick, and Little Puffy Tail your tip about pinch, pinch, cut really helped by the way, but since the quick grows with the nail I know I now need to trim them more often in the short tierm until the quick recedes. So I guess my question is when do I stop and know when I’ve reached the right length? Does anyone have pictures of a good length for a 5 pound bunny? Thanks in advance!

I keep mine trimmed back to the fur of the foot, so their nails are barely visible through their fluff.

Check out the Monthly Maintenance info page on this site:

If you scroll down to the nail section there’s a good picture of the “cut line”.

That’s also what my vet does (stickerbunny). Good for you – I’m too nervous to cut Buster’s.
Mine said that once they start sticking out of the fur they’re getting too long and should come in within 2 weeks. I go every 6 weeks to get them trimmed because i’m not too sure how long is too long! But yeah, I think as long as they’re cut back a tiny bit past the fur it should be good.

I do same as Stickerbunny. They’re reasonably straight at this length and not curving downward or out sideways.

Mine all had the nails trimmed the other day. It was really sunny so I did it outdoors and it helped some. I was actually able to take a significant amount off the hind foot nails. I did small trims and kept moving back each time. I use the pressure test method also and this allowed me to trim back quite far. It is really, really useful!

Max’s nails get trimmed to the fur line, but he has those big, clunky, furry lop feet! Meadow’s nails are always visible because of her rex fur. I just try to do it regularly (every 4 weeks or so) and I trim a little. I also use the “press, press, clip” method.
