I was in Petsmart today loading up on bunny supplies and I noticed they had these Oxbow Simple Rewards treats. They had strawberry ones, banana ones, and a veggie one. I grabbed the banana ones because I have already attempted to give them a piece of strawberry one and they didn’t care about it.

I give Sally 1 Oxbow Gigestive Support cookie once a day as a treat beause she LOVES them! But Harley, doesn’t like them and I want to find a treat that I can feed him when I give Sally her treat for the day. Harley stumped the banana treat! It’s basically a 100% freeze dried banana chips with no added sugar or ingredients. Is there a way I can get him to at least TRY a treat!? I really want to give him a treat when I give Sally hers. He gets so excited when I come up to give Sally her treat (I think he is just getting excited because Sally is getting excited. He is feeding off her energy) anyhoo, he gets excited when I come over for treat time and then he gets all sad when he realizes it’s just that silly oxbow gigestive support cookie. *sigh* I really thought he would want these banana treats!

When Monkey was younger, she refused to try anything new. It took me shoving food at her face several times, and her to get grumpy at it and grab at it with her little teeth, for her to finally get a nibble and realize it was nommy.

So yeah… I had to annoy the pants of off her to get her to eat treats lol.

Sounds like you got a fussy bunny! My bunnies, even fussy Bindi, LOVE all the Oxbow treats. They freak out over the bananas and any cookies, especially.

I just placed it in the food bowl last night and when I came in this morning it was gone! I wonder which bunny took it… I guess i will find out which one later today when it’s treat time. Whoever ate it probably realized how tasty it was and will be begging for another!

So are even the veggie treats from Oxbow Simple Rewards healthy? I saw they had dried potato in the ingredients and cabbage in such.
              Here are the ingredients :

Barley Flour, Alfalfa Meal, Rolled Oats, Molasses, Canola Oil (naturally preserved with mixed tocopherols and lecithin), Dried Carrots, Dried Potatoes, Dried Cabbage, Dried Red Peppers, Dried Green Peppers, Flax Seed Meal, Kelp, Garlic Powder, Brewers Yeast, Yucca Schidigera.

              Guaranteed Analysis

I think they are healthy and have been giving my rabbits these treats for years (not the strawberry or banana). I do the Barley, Veggie and Timothy treats. They are treats though and not meant to be given in large quantities. Maybe try the Timothy – they are small “o” shaped treats.

I think the thing with treats is that maybe Harley doesn’t necessarily understand it’s a treat – it’s just food for him. Some rabbits just don’t get it which is frustrating for owners :~)

If you have a Costco card they sometimes have those freeze dried fruits for much less of the cost if your rabbits ever decide they like them.

I’m confused. I’d been given to understand that potato is not at all good (deadly I believe was the term used) for rabbits, so why would a treat containing dried potatoes be safe to feed?

I don’t think potatoes are deadly and you certainly want to feed any treat in moderation – heck my rabbits would all be dead if that was the case – now I’m not saying I feed them baked potatoes but I’ve been feeding these Oxbow treats for years and no problems (at least for my rabbits). Fruits are also high in sugar which is bad for a rabbit’s gut but in moderation it is fine. Processed foods (like pellets) really aren’t the best things for rabbits either but we feed those and basically these are processed treats.

Obviously reading those ingredients sure don’t make it sound appealing (but then how much processed food does when you read the label – human or pet food). I guess because I trust Oxbow I don’t find the ingredients too concerning and I’ve fed them for years to my rabbits. But you obviously must make your own decision on what you chose to feed your rabbits.

Ideally rabbits probably shouldn’t get any treats at all, but who wants to deny their rabbits treats – no one I know.

Yeah, I would only be giving him one chip a day. My buns don’t get many treats. And Sally only gets one treat a day. Thanks for clearing up that ingredient list!

It takes Wooly awhile to try something new. For the longest time, he would turn his nose up to banana. Finally he tried it one day and now he is addicted. LOL
