This is my idea for the rabbit area. The condo will be set in the middle. I am going to make a pen out of Storage cube grids (will be cheaper then buying a whole new pen!) as well as make a “Hallway” area on both sides. It can be used as a hidey house or as a resting spot where they can jump on top. (I will have something on the top so they don’t just have grids on their feet.) They will be able to go to which ever side they choose, as it will be open. The other side will have the x-pen and the same hallway thing. I am really hoping this will work. I am very hesitant because taking out two bottom grids from the condo can make it very unstable, but that is why I am going to try to reinforce it with more grids. What do you guys think about it?

I don’t think taking out the two bottom grids will make it too unstable. I used NIC’s to make two separate habitats stacked and the middle/door cubes don’t support any weight when they’re closed so not having them there wouldn’t change how weight is supported in the structure. I re-enforced the whole thing with zip ties. I did every other opening and crisscrossed the middles. We tested the upper level and it easily supported 50lbs (way more than my bunnies and all their stuff). You can also use wooden dowels as extra support, I did not, but I’m going to add them because I think it will look nicer and add some extra support (Never too sturdy!)

I generally don’t like NIC’s as pens, if you have a wily bunny they could try to jump and climb over them. That’s how Helo fractured his foot. The regular x-pens don’t seem to entice a bunny prone to climbing to climb. I’m not sure how jumpy/climby your bunnies are so if you have used NIC pens before without issues then it should be fine.

I think it’s a great design! How much space is it coming out to? It looks like it will be spacious.

I’m a bit confused as to what part of the diagram will be “bunny space”. >.> So I might be looking at it wrong.

I will have to measure out the area, but it will be fairly large. I have never seen my rabbits try to climb anything, but then again I’ve never given them the option to. lol My bunnies are fairly well behaved and don’t try anything funny, so I am not too concerned about the NIC pen but if I notice they are trying to jump or climb out of it I will replace it with a regular x-pen. I have extras, I just don’t want to use them for this because I kind of need them to be handy. I am going to get some wooden dowels too just in case and I might add more zip ties to the condo just for my assurance.

The whole diagram is bunny space. =) They get it all. lol They can go into the condo and come out on either end into the “hallway” which leads to either side of the pens. I am really hoping it works because I know they will love the space!

I will post pictures of it sometime either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. lol The bunnies won’t be here though. =( I just am in a hurry to build it while they are away. I like to have things prepared. haha

Yeah, I can’t wait to build it! I have to paint my room and stuff first, though before I start that. =P

Thanks! I will definitely post pictures of it! =D

It’s probably not going to be as large of an area as I thought but it’s still a good size and I think the bunnies will really enjoy it! =)
