 Hello everyone

I have two beautiful albino Flemish Giants. Unfortunately I haven’t sexed them yet because they are very skittish and I am worried about them hurting themselves if I try. Soon though! 

My fiance bought them for me as a gift from a random person on Craigslist, so they were seperated too early from their mother (only four weeks!) but they are doing well. If the seller wasn’t lying, they are now 18 weeks old.

They have surprised me with their personalities. Despite being skittish they love children and are very tolerant of my 18 month old (1.5 year old for those of you that arent used to months) and they even allowed my 15 month old sister to pet them

They’re very playful as long as no one tries to pick them up, and always nudging us for attention.

Somehow, they ended up with the names Poofy (the smaller and more skittish one) and Floofie (much larger and more mellow)

My daughter refers to them as “bubbies” and “poof-n-foof”

They were purchased in hopes that they could be used as therapy pets (I have social anxiety that makes it nearly impossible for me to leave the house, and never alone. I also have frequent panic attacks) My fiance didnt fully do his research, obviously ;P but surprisingly they do help. The older they get, the more frequently they seem to come snuggle up to me when I am feeling panicky. I can’t say if it’s coincidence or not, but it’s pretty sweet.

The picture is one of the moments where they rushed to my side while I was panicking. They cuddled up to me and stayed there until I felt better.

I’ve had various pet rabbits throughout the years, but most notably would be when I helped my dad raise and breed meat rabbits for his snake (a fourteen foot albino Burmese python, before owning them became illegal here.) It was incredibly difficult to do, knowing what was going to happen to them but it taught me a lot.
I hope to be able to study veterinary, and after I get my license to be able to acquire enough land and funds to run an animal rescue. My dream is to be able to take in a wide variety of domestic, wild and exotic animals, as I can’t stand seeing them hurt or neglected. Obviously a bit far fetched, but I think with a lot of planning (and luck, haha) it would be possible.

Definitely get them sexed soon, because they are at an age to breed, and we don’t want any Oops litters!

A vet can tell you for sure at that age, and a baseline health check would be good for them anyway, so you can see if they are nice and healthy.

Most definitely. We don’t have many vets around here, and I got them as a surprise so I didn’t get the chance to research vets. I’ve been looking around and think I may have finally found one. I’ve been watching them closely for any signs of wanting to mate. Haven’t seen any yet, but of course, accidents do happen, and I’m not in a position where I could handle a litter. I’m so hoping that this vet actually knows what they’re doing!

I think it might be time to separate them until they get sexed. It takes a literal second for a pregnancy to happen for a bunny. They can even mate through cages. Same sex bunnies need to be separated at a certain point as well to keep them from fighting until they are altered and bonded.

I also have anxiety issues and bunnies are a huge de-stressor. Except when they are sick, of course.

I agree with the others. Better get into the vet asap. Litters can make a surprise appearance.

I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder about 8 years ago and have been studying the effects of therapy pets on individuals with autism spectrum disorder (who generally also have a high amount of anxiety). I find all my pets to be of great comfort, but especially my new little bunny, Hazel. LOL – although I had a classic meltdown one afternoon when I saw her favoring a hind foot. My suspicion is she hurt it jumping off a stool I had in her xpen that I didn’t realize was too high (until she hurt herself, basically!) Luckily, it clearly got better by the day and she was 100% within the week. Whew!
