I was curious as to what you all do to give your rabbit hay. I have tried a hay ball and just putting the hay in a bowl, but it makes a mess no matter what I do. Does anyone have a better idea?

I put mine in litter boxes and a clothes hamper I cut a hole in so they can get hay out of it. They still drag it around though.

This is what we use. It’s called a hay saver and we got it from etsy. I just looked it up, and it looks like they’re not available at the moment (not sure if that’s temporary). There are other versions of it, so you could most likely find something just like it.

As you can see, there are three large holes to choose from. Unforunately, it’s easy for buns to dig the hay right out (which Java does), but this is still a MILLION times better than having hay right in the box – I dumped it at least once a day, if not twice, because all the hay was gross.

By the way, as a bunny parent, you have to tolerate hay getting everywhere. It’s just inevitable, even with the cleanest buns.

I use a bent NIC grid and that works great too. But just as Eucalyptus said, with any hay rack or dispenser you have to be prepared to be cleaning up hay all the time.

Right now I am using a bent NIC grid too. I put them right above the litter boxes. It seems to work well.

I’vebeen using the willow hay rack, which I got from the BB store (not there today) and also was sold at BusyBunny’s store:

She loves it because it tastes good! You can also set it up against cage wires if you want, and thread 2 zip ties through the middle back to hold it in place.

I would get notified when it’s back in stock, or just try a different willow basket since the idea is the same. An edible one is safe, fun, and easily replaced.
