Hi, I’m new here and have a question for you guys:

My netherland dwarf, Jake, is about 6 months old, spayed and litter trained.

However, he’s been pretty mischievous lately, by pooping in a corner of my room, sitting there to cover it up with his butt, and slowly eating it all up (hopefully) before I notice. Does anyone else have this problem with their bunny? I’m not sure what to do about it because it’s extremely hard to notice.

Also, when he’s still in the act of eating up all his poop and I approach him to check if he pooped on the carpet, he’ll dash away back into his cage, knowing he did something wrong.

I love my little Jakey, but I’m just not sure if I should let him continue this behavior, or if there’s a way I should approach it. Thanks for any help!

Also, are there any effective ways of litter training him to stop pooping on my bed? Or is it pretty much a lost cause?

Hmm that sounds weird. The only poops buns eat are cecatropes, as far as I know, which are a special type of poop usually produced during the night, though some buns do it in the day too. They’re a mushy, soft, smelly poop, usually all stuck together and the bun re-eats it to digest the nutrients it couldn’t totally get the first time. So I’m not sure what’s going on there, does it look like what I described?

To stop it…well perhaps put a litter tray in that corner? Maybe he’s telling you he needs one there. To stop him pooping on your bed, you can’t really. Other than figuring out how to block it off so he can’t get up there.

          – Good Luck

There’s a previous thread about this that could help you!

No, I have seen BOTH my buns eat their normal poos too. They do it when they are running around my house sometimes. I just let them do it because that means I won’t have to pick it up later. They never leave poop laying around because they end up eating it for some reason. They don’t do this often, but they will do it on occasion.

Anyhoo, it it’s in the same corner everytime; just place a litter box there and see what he does…

Oh and with the bed, don’t allow him up there. It’s just too soft and fluffy NOT to poop on it!
