My baby Bunbury has seem to really taken to peeing in his (empty) food bowl lately. I thought it was a fluke the first couple times but he’s done it three days in a row now. Is he marking it as his territory? I’ve heard of pooping in the food bowl to mark, but not peeing…

And no, he’s not neutered yet but will be in a few weeks’ time. I can deal with bowl-washing if this is hormone-related, I’m just really curious as to why he does it, haha.

That is weird. I would just remove the bowl once he is done with his meal to encourage him to go in his litterbox. Lol.

What is your set up? Is it close to the litter box? If so maybe try moving the bowl to a different location.

You know what, I think the litter box proximity could very well be what’s causing it. I’ve moved his bowl to see if that’ll help– thanks!

EDIT: O…kay, maybe not! I moved it to the opposite end (from the litterbox) of his cage and he did it again.  Guess I’ll start taking it out, but still, I’m curious…

My bun started doing that except he would do it when there was still food left. I got him a bigger litter box at first because I thought it was a placement problem too, but it didn’t help. instead I got a feeder rack that hangs off the side of the cage which has solved the problem. Good luck finding a solution that will work for you!

My bunny does that too! I just remove it once he is finished (He finishes 1/4 cup in record time) and give it to him at the end of the day with another 1/4 cup in.

My bun LOVES his water dish! He hates the bottle so we got him a small ceramic dish to drink from. He loves to play in the water, and also pees in it to mark it!
