Hi there! I got my rabbit Iris spayed on the 12th, and am now ready to move her into a bigger cage! It is three grids long, two grids wide and two grids high. The second level takes up the full length of the back of the cage (so it is three grids long, one wide), if you can imagine that. I have everything put together pretty securely with cable ties, but I was wondering if there is something I should add to the level to make it more secure? Also, I’m going to make a cage base using coroplast, but I was wondering what I should put on the floor of the cage, as well as on the level to make it comfortable? Thank you so much!

First of all, 3×2 is not big enough, no matter how many levels there are. What breed is Iris? How heavy is she? You should make it at least 2×4 PER RABBIT. If it is smaller than 8 square feet it is too small. You could try this foam flooring. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Norsk-Stor-240247-Solid-Color-Recyclamat-Multi-Purpose-Foam-Flooring-Gray/13253270?findingMethod=rr

3X2 grids is fine for a single rabbit. The grids about about 14″ each (if there the same ones most of us use) and that comes out to 3ft 6inch X 2ft 4inch which is about 8 sq ft. I think colleenbunny was thinking 3ft X 2ft instead of grids.

I think a lot of people secure their shelves with dowels.
Here are some links for instructions/pics that include how to secure levels:

Well my mom got me another package of grids as an early birthday present, so I’m going to be making the cage four grids in length now instead of three!
As for her breed; she is a mix between a holland lop and a lion head, and I’m not fully sure of her weight.
I’m going to be using linoleum on the bottom of her cage, and will put in a bed (or something else warm) in her cage for her to rest on.
I do have one more question that I can’t seem to find an answer for; what do I do to secure towels to the shelf?

Depends on how they’re designed. Easy way is just to binder clip them to the sides which makes it really easy to remove for washings. I’ve also wrapped towels/blanket around the shelves; you can also sew them around.

I like to put more than one cable tie at each junction. You can also put them diagonally to increase strength. THe more cable ties you use, and the tighter you pull them the more secure it will be. Try to look for a big package of ties because they are cheaper the more you buy
