I came home at lunch time today and my 2 year old lop who was spayed a month ago was huddled up in the corner looking sleepy. I came home after work and he was huddled up in the corner next to the toilet. I managed to pick him up and put him on my bed to try and get a closer look at him and he weed and poo’d down the side of the bed. He jumped off and is now huddled up again in a corner. I have felt his ears and they are ice cold. they are usually warm. I have checked the house to see if he has chewed anything which could have made him sick but all my cables are protected and I can’t see anything he could have eaten other than what he always eats and chews.

What could be wrong with him?

That is very strange behaviour for a bun. Has he been okay up to this point? Is he shedding? Listen closely to his tummy, are there loud noises? Is he grinding his teeth?

To be honest, if you don’t see an improvement in the morning I would take him to the vet. As long as he is eating and pooping, it’s not an emergency.

If the vet is still open I’d take him in now. Jack became VERY sick VERY quickly and he didn’t make it to the morning to take him in to get looked at. Buns can go down so fast it’s scary.

He has been fine up to this point. He’s not grinding his teeth but I just put my ear next to his tummy and I can hear noises. He’s not shedding. When I was looking at him today he kept re positioning himself as if he wasn’t comfortable. He has pooped but it doesn’t look like he has eaten this afternoon. I think I will call the vets and get the soonest appointment.

Is he still willing to eat treats and his favorite foods? Keep monitoring his intake/output until the vet appointment…I hope things turn out alright!

Defo sounds like gas. For me, lots of tummy massages help. Are the gurgling noises loud?

I’ve just spoken with the vet who said the tummy noises are okay. He would be more concerned if there were no noises. He’s not moving from where he’s huddled. The vet said to offer him some warm water 30 degrees, which I did and he sipped it. Vet said he’s staying still to conserve energy and he’s probably cold and I need to warm him up. All I have is a microwave bean bag so I’ve warmed it and it’s up against him and he’s not running away. I’ve put our heating on full ball and hopefully as soon as he warms up he will be better. Strange thing is we’re going into summer so I turned my heating off a few days ago because the temperature has been above 5 degrees for the first time in months.Obviously not a good idea for bunny. It is the UK after all. Thank you so much for all you replies

If he doesn’t mind you touching/holding him then your own body heat can work a treat, and being held and touched is often very comforting when they are feeling sick. I’m sure the bean bag feels good but cuddled in a towel in your lap would probably feel even better. A tummy massage wouldn’t hurt either and its easy to give them this way.

Best of luck and hope he is happy and hopping about soon!
