My bunny Trixie is about 7 months old now. I live away from home at Uni in a room big enough to house a large dog crate as a cage, and we’ve been living happily since she was 4/5 weeks old.

I took her home during the Easter Holidays, where my family own 3 other rabbits, and although she’s been around them before, she seemed more aggressive this time. We shrugged it off and discussed maybe getting her spayed for when we’ll be back over the summer, but Trixie has such a fantastic personality, I didn’t want her to change and was worried getting her spayed might do so.

Anyway, so fast forward to now. We’ve been back at Uni for 3 days and she wants to be around my constantly, cleaning me every chance she gets and then, for the first time ever she tries to mount my leg?! Nipping me and scratching me with her claws. This was on bare skin, and she had NEVER before nipped anyone’s bare skin. (She has a tendency to nip through clothes since she doesn’t understand there is skin underneath.)

I immediately got on the phone with my Mum to talk about getting her spayed as a definite now. Unfortunately, every vet near me is super expensive, and back home there’s a very cheap vet that we’ve taken rabbits to before. So now I have to put up/discipline this behaviour for the next 6 weeks, until I can get her spayed!

I’m at a real loss, I don’t want to keep her in her cage all the time, but my room is where I work, I can’t have her nipping my feet constantly, and I’m still worried about letting her on my bed. She bites the duvet and has a habit of weeing up there, especially when I’m up there with her!

Does anyone have any idea how to cope with this for this long?

Spaying won’t change her personality, just get rid of hormonal activity and stop her from getting pregnant and getting some cancers. Try saying NO firmly, but not loudly, tap her ear, clap, forcefully move her away and if she bites you very painfully and draws blood spray her with a water pistol or plant sprayer. I do think you should spay her as soon as possible, it sounds like she has a lot of hormonal energy.
