I woke up this morning and noticed a little blood in Siha’s litter tray (we’re using soft paper litter for her while she recovers). My husband lifted her up and I could see a split in her incision.

I have called my vet and she has told me the emergency clinic is open from 12 to 1. That’s an hour and a bit away. Is there anything I can do right now for her? She was all stretched out a bit ago not unhappy at all, still wandering around her and looking for pets! She has pooped a very small amount, and seems to be eating her hay okay.

Anyone had this happen to them?

No, yet to go through this then I am going for X4 in less than a month. Fate has finally stopped throwing up obstacles. I just need to get Pascal done so I can use the recovery cage.
However, had many a cat done… How big is the scar, how big is the split and how many days post surgery ???

Her incision is about 2/3 inches. The split is only a half inch, and this is the 4th day post spay.

OK… Let me get this right… the incision is 2-3 inches ? If it is 2/3 of an inch it means that nearly the whole incision has opened which means get in your car now and break speed limits to get to the vet. Day 4 is not to bad the chances of infection are reduced. They are still there but reduced. I think as it is less than a week you really need to get back to the vet and see about having that area restitched or atleast viewed by your vet and see if they feel it is necessary.

She must have meant between 2 and 3 inches, I don’t know how the procedure could be performed with only a 2/3 inch incision.

If the incision is 2 to 3 inches, and only a half inch has separated, and she is moving okay and eating/pooping, I would wait until normal hours tomorrow. Call the vet first thing and tell them you are bringing her back in. They may ask you to bring her in when they open and they’ll squeeze her in between other patients.

Did they actually use stitches or was it glue?

We’re back from the vet, they kept her for a few hours and re stitched her under the skin an then glued the skin tight so there’s no way she can get at the stitches. Looks much better now and she is recovering well. We have her home now and we’re keeping her warm, watching to make sure she’s eating okay. We’ve been given an antibiotic just in case and may have to force feed her in an hour if she doesn’t eat.

                      Thanks!

She’s taking her meds and is currently lying stretched out curled up with a hot water bottle, poor baby. She’s been so out of it but has been eating little bits here and there, we’re hoping she’ll be much better tomorrow.

Siha is not doing so well after her restitch. She ate fine when she came back from the vets, took a small amount of broccoli. Then she rested for the rest of the evening and I gave her .8ml of dog metacam which I think was WAY too much. The vet said 10drops but she wouldn’t take it in her food, so SOMEHOW I thought that meant .8ml. Since then I’ve syringe fed her a few smushed up pellets and she are a good bit of broccoli today but absolutely no poops or pee. I’ve also syringed her lots of water. Tonight I made sure she just got the 10drops. If we have no poops tomorrow morning I have to take her to the vet. She doesnt havr stasis as her appetite is a little less than normal and there are soft gurgles coming from her tum. Its not hard either…

It’s tough because after the emergency vet and the spay all in one week we barely have enough money to eat, this will probably push us over the edge.

Praying to our Lord she gets better tonight.

The pre spay care was an extra charge? Also, the antibiotics can mess up her gut flora. did they give you a probiotic to go with it to keep the gut flora in balance? because the antibiotics take away the bad bacteria and the good bacteria. Maybe give her some benebac to go with that antibiotic?

                              Very very good news.

We have pee and poop!! I think I OD’d her with the Metacam and caused her to be completely off her food. She’s still just happy to sit around but she is eating and her poops have quickly gone from mucus-y to normal for her. I’m quite relieved. She’s drinking water and using the litter tray to pee in.
