Okay, I just went out to Petsmart and found these really cheap ($10 for 45 lb) store brand pine cat litter. The bag says “ExquisiCat naturaIs, 100% natural pine.” I bought it, but am not sure if it’s kiln dryed, even though I asked people at the store and even called corporate. I’m new to using pine (still worried about it!!) I’m not going to use it until I know for sure that it’s totally safe for my bunny. I’m very over protective

If it’s pelleted it should be fine.
Kiln drying is good for shavings. The pelleting process does a similar thing in reducing the volatile oils.

Another question regarding the pine pellets. I noticed this morning that it crumbles and turns almost like to dust when peed on. Is the dust easily ingested when they are sniffing the litter box?

okay, so it’s safe for bunnies and won’t cause respiratory problems or liver disease?  I’m still worried. and NewBunnyOwner123 had a good question.. now I’ll worry about that.

Haha ^^ well there you go.

It’s shavings that release the phenols more readily and when rabbits are kept on this in poorly ventilated cages, it can cause issues. As house rabbits, they’re only going to be in litter when using the box.

I find the pelleted wood litters still have a smell but I’m not constantly bombarded by it. Some buns may be more sensitive to the smell. But they are great with controlling urine odour and that odour can cause respiratory irritation too.
All in all, I think pellet litter is deemed safe.

I find when it’s damp it’s not really dusty. The pellet expands and falls apart but it’s just a coarse sawdust. Some are finer and it ends up like mud.
If you have concerns about the litter once broken down try a litter screen and layer of hay. They won’t be able to dig and nose around in it that way.

                          Just don’t quote me lol

I read so many things I think the facts all meld together sometimes.

Good luck with the litter. I think you’ll like how well it works. Hope your rabbit takes to it ok too!
