Has anyone talked to their vet about Feline pine (non-clumping)? I’ve used it for a little over a year now and have not noticed any problems. But my cousin told her vet she was using it and her vet told her it’s bad for them and seemed very concerned. Everything I read online says it’s healthy for them as long as it’s not shavings. Any thought on this?

Feline pine is fine. Pine shavings are the nasty ones to stay away from.

MB is right. Feline Pine are untreated pine pellets. Pine shavings, and wood stove pellets made of pine using an accelerant are dangerous. They emit something that causes respiratory problems over time. Since some people may not be cautions about whether they specifically use the brand Feline Pine, or just pine pellets that are cheaper, your vet is probably warning you off pine in general.

I was still nervous about pine after learning about the potential issues, and tried the more expensive Aspen Supreme Aspen pellets. What I love about those is that they absorb pee and odor quickly and last much, much longer without any detectable odor. I toss some aspen shavings, which are quite safe, on top just to keep it soft for her. You can use aspen shavings alone, but they need more frequent changing.
