I have a plastic box of unopened, rabbit specific, vitakraft grass seeds. It’s a couple of years old ( I lost it then found it again ) would it be rabbit safe? Or if it’s gone off will it just not grow?

If it’s gone off it wont grow. You can test it by putting a few seeds between two layers of soaking wet tissue- or toiletpaper on a saucer and see if they sprout in a few days. Or you can just sow them and see if anything grows =)

With some seeds the ability to sprout will deteriorate very slowly, like tomatoe-seeds which will remain fine for at least 10 years. I don’t know about grass though.

It’s full of very funny stuff, sort of….wibbly, it says to just add water.

You could always try. April is the best time to start growing stuff. If nothing happens, nothing happens. If it grows, it grows. It looks interesting! I’d love to see more pics of it if you get it growing!

They have found grass seeds in the permafrost of the arctic that has sprouted despite being eons old. I’m guessing you have a good chance. The wibbly stuff would be vermiculite and other expanded growing mediums. It’s almost hydroponic. The lack of soil would also mean lack of bacteria.
You can’t loose anything by trying.
