Has anyone ever had an issue like this with their bun:

Siha will only use her litter tray to sit in. She will not use it to pee or poop in. She sits in it for hours eating hay but will not use it.

Yes, my rabbit is the same way. She seems to think that her litter box is now a place to lay down and take a nap. She uses it occasionally, but most the time just to sleep. I’m hoping maybe getting her spayed with help? I’ll keep you posted!

Do you know what sort of set up her previous owners had for her?

Does Thane use it or is there a second box? She might be claiming the box as hers.

Thane uses a different one, Siha’s owner kept her cage as a whole litter tray.

Is there anything on the floor of the cage? If there is anything absorbent, that could be why she’s going there and not in the litter box.

Do you have hay in the litterbox?

I read somewhere that putting something that’s more comfortable, such as a dog bed or sheep skin, or tastier hay, away from the litter box can help so they decide that there’s better places to sleep and eat.

My bun does that, he has 2 toilets and he still chooses to pee and poop all over his cage, I’ve tried everything, even removing sawdust from his cage and just putting newspaper down, but to no avail. I’ve scooped up poop and put in his toilets but nothing, he just poops wherever he likes. But having said that as he only does it in his cage, I’ve kind of resigned myself to that fact he’s a messy little devil and I won’t be able to change him.

Hey ho. If you find a solution, please let me know x

@Buckleys Mum: Try removing the newspaper also. Leave the floor bare. What are you using as litter in his toilet boxes?

Emmie, what about creating a bed for her out of something like a wicker basket? Some are low and shallow and may give the same feel that she likes about the litter box.
Is the litter box in a cage? Pen? Is it sitting under anything that shelters overhead? If in a cosier place, that could be a reason why she favours it to sit in rather then toilet in it.

I think that’s it. Right now I have her in a pen because she’s recovering and she prefers a towel to the tray.
