I’m hoping you all can help. I have a 4 wk old bunny. She’s a great eater and drinker and is playful. She doesn’t appear to be ill at all, but this morning I was just checking her over cause the person I got her from said I should clean her bottom with peroxide just to make sure it stays clean. The fir around her vaginal area was yellow and hard, so I figured it was urine and put some warm water in the sink and put her bottom in it to loosen the fir and then I just gently washed the area. But when I was drying her off I noticed a milky white discharge. Any ideas?

Wow 4 weeks old?! You got her 4 weeks too early :/

I can’t offer much help but I’m sure a more experienced bunny owner will stop by shortly to offer better advice.

Also, don’t use peroxide unless its needed.
If she is healthy, she should have a clean bottom area without any extra help….

I know I didn’t know they were that young until I got there to pick her up. He said they were drinking water and eating pellets, which she is, so I’m wondering exactly how old she was when she was taken from her mom. Anyhow, I went ahead and bought her cause she was taken from her mom anyway and I felt bad that she was just in a wire cage out in a shed……along with many others.
I actually haven’t used peroxide on her. She’s always been perfectly clean until this morning.

If you absolutely need to give her a butt bath because its just really really dirty then just fill the sink or tub with about an inch or two deep with warm water. I know that with Sally she didn’t eat a Cecal the first night I had her and it was a HUGE clump of smelly poop on her so I had to give her a butt bath. But you want to avoid getting a rabbit wet if you can.
The stress probably caused her poopy but or it could be because she was taken way too soon from momma.

What is her diet like right now? Is she on the food she was on at the breeders? Is she getting veggies already?

I didn’t get all if her wet, just her butt and she wasn’t poopy, it was a white discharge
She’s eating the same pellets she was eating at her first home and drinking water, of course. I don’t give her veggies yet

Ok make sure she has unlimited hay as well. I’m not sure what the white discharge is unless she recently went to the bathroom and had sludge in her urine. But I’m sure another bunny owner can offer advice in that area…

                      What kind of hay?

You can give both alfalfa and Timothy hay. If not Timothy, another type if grass hay. Alfalfa hay is good for young rabbits.

Rabbits excrete calcium in their urine. You sometimes see milky yellow coloured pee. I really recommend you take it for an initial vet checkup to make sure all is well. If you are seeing mucous or watery poo then she needs see a vet immediately.

If she has alfalfa based pellets you can get Timothy hay. When I first got Sally I mixed alfalfa hay and Timothy hay together because I couldn’t find any alfalfa based pellets.

This is a good guide to follow. It has great information

I would have her checked for cocciddia.
