Well, this Easter break turned out to be the worst ever… I took the girls to be spayed on Wednesday. I haven’t had access to a computer to update you guys, but I ended up having to rush Korra to the vet on Friday. I thought she had went into stasis and I was feeding her from a syringe. She continued to get weak and look worse. She stopped producing waste, so I rushed her to the vet that was an hour away. The vet kept her over the weekend and gave her Sub-Q fluids. She got a little better but never produced waste and the vet was about to perform exploratory surgery. She never got the chance. Korra passed away the day before Easter and I did not have to make the decision to put her to sleep. I feel guilty that I did not take her to the vet sooner and I’m worried that I should have asked the vet to put her to sleep sooner. She was grinding her teeth on Friday which is why I thought it was stasis and rushed her to the vet. The vet says that she may have had something caught around her uriter or she may have had a hereditary problem that caused her kidneys to fail. I wonder if they just shut down because she really was in stasis. I am really just not sure what happened but I wish I knew.

Korra was the sweetest little girl and I cradled her in my arms until she was rushed to the vet. I feel guilty that she passed alone at the vets, but I wanted her to have a fighting chance. I will forever remember her cute little binkies and how she loved to cuddle. She was the cutest little girl I have ever seen.

Binky Free little Korra. I will always love you <3

Oh gosh I am so sorry. This must be so hard for you.
It’s a tricky time after surgery as it’s normal for them to not want to eat. It’s hard to know when its time to take them back if there are complications. Taking her in by Friday sounds like the right timeframe if she was not recovering.

          Again, Im sorry.

Thank you for the support. I am trying to focus all my attention I can give on Ashe. I don’t think I will get her a mate for awhile and when I do it will be adopted from a shelter and already neutered/spayed. I don’t want to do this again.

I’m sorry about Korra – it’s heartbreaking. It’s good you have Ashe there to focus your attention on.

I’m so sorry to learn about Korra.
Please do not feel guilty. Your description was of doing exactly the right thing, from getting her into the vet’s before the holiday weekend to leaving her in the best possible care. Her condition showed she could not be saved, despite your best efforts and those of your vet. Bunnies die suddenly of mysterious causes, and you heeded the warning signs promptly.

You and Ashe are grieving now. Just stay close and snuggle. When you have given yourself time to get over this, you may want to explore neutered companions from a shelter. But as a solo bunny owner, it isn’t necessary or urgent. Just be close to Ashe for now.

I finally had time to get a picture of her onto the computer. Sorry it’s kind of late. She had the cutest face.

                    Oh gosh! What a sweetie!

                    Is Ashe coping alright?

Ashe never met her because they just got spayed 3 days before she died. Ashe recovered like a champ. She likes to mountain climb my couch in her play area and her attitude has improved drastically. She is chewing A LOT on my wood around the house so I had to block the favorite chewing spots and make more home made toys. Her area looks like a toilet paper roll dump site She is doing very well though. I’m clearing out a closet to turn into a condo area. The closet has sliding doors that will be left open and I want to put wheels on the bottom of the condo. Havn’t figured out how I’m going to do that. I just had to tell her no tugging carpet and gave her a toy and she grunted and darted at me lol… She doesn’t do it as much now and I know it’s just because I put my hand in her visual zone too fast. She really is a good bunny, but I do hope the chewing obsession lessens a bit after hormones wear off.
