Hi All! Been a lurker for a while but have a question regarding indoor Flemish Giant cages. An old friend of ours had a very large litter of Flemish Giants and is offering one to us. Were no strangers to large rabbits (former show breeders) but since we’ve moved off our acres of land to a suburban setting I’d like to get an enclosure she can stay in while at work.

I’ve spotted the KW Cage bunny pen with door, cover and pan…is this large enough for a Flemish doe? I work part time hours at night and she would be taught to free roam the remainder of time.

The item can be found on the KW website (Item number 4618).

I used Nic Cubes I got online from walmart to build my Flemie’s condo. I used wood from Lowes and Zip Ties it has held together really well and Big Blue is 22 lbs

The cage seems fine the only problem is it is expensive you can build yourself an NIC cube cage for a lot less.

@bullrider, how does your Big Blue handle the ramps? Does the cage shake? How is the clean up with the carpet? PS: your blue is very cute! Were stuck between choosing a blue or a steel!

@kamdy, im a little worried about using NIC cages due to a lack of supplies around here. I wanted to try chloroplast but the nearest store is 45 miles for it.

The KW cage is NOT going to be adequate for a Flemish Giant at all. Those cages are small and they have wire bottoms if I remember correctly and are really made for rabbit breeders which aren’t even adequate for those poor rabbits. She could not stretch out, stretch up, turn around, etc…It’s only 24 x 36 x 30 high – no way to adequately fit big rabbit, big litter box, food bowl/water bowl and everything else – even for a small rabbit.

I would suggest purchasing an exercise pen (usually found in the dog section). Really even better for a large rabbit would be combining 2 exercise pens (and the taller the better as young rabbits can be jumpers). A single pen is 4 x 4 feet so it’s fine for a young Flemmie, but not so much for a mature one.

@Sarita, the pen model does not have a wire floor. Just a pan. But size issue noted! Ill look around for some deals on play pens.

Check Amazon for good deals for x-pens. You can use some vinyl flooring with an area carpet over the flooring to give bunny traction. I know Lowes has big sheets of vinyl you can purchase. I’ve found cheap area rugs at Walmart too.

Check out Amazon. I just found a Midwest “Walk-Through” pen for another member last week. The walk-through let’s you walk in and out, and let’s the bunny hop in and out. You’d want a minimum height of 36 inches. I just looked now, it looks like the gold has gone up in price but the black is under $60 with free shipping.
