I’ve noticed that lately that Lucy has been smelling really bad. She’s all white and her legs/butt area have some yellow staining on them. I wanted to maybe try and give her a butt bath, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips who have done it before? Thanks!

She’s about 5-6 months old? Intact rabbits pee can get a bit smelly so you’ll be happy to know that will change once she’s spayed.

I’d try a “dry bath” first. Using cornstarch, you rub it well into the soiled areas then comb it out. Doing that over a couple times might help. Not so much with the yellow staining but it can freshen the fur up some.

Is she starting to do territorial droppings? They can be smelly too. Sort of like corn chips.

And last but not least – the scent glands! Check them on either side of the genital mound and be prepared for the smell.
There’s more about those under the Bunny Info tab.

Here are the instructions on a dry and a wet bath from Dana Krempels. It’s best not to get rabbits wet, but at times it may be necessary.

I think it might just be scent glands/the fact that she isn’t spayed yet, because she smells a little skunky. I tried to look around down their earlier, but she really was not having that at all.

Since she’s not spayed yet I would definitely say that it is hormonal. Before my girl was fixed she was very musky smelling.

“Skunky” definitely sounds like a hormonal scent gland kind of thing. If you are worried about her rear parts being stained yellow, you could consider adding a screen to the litter box so that she is not sitting on soiled litter.

Peppypoo, she already has a screen on top of her little box, so I don’t really know why she has yellow staining.
