My wife and I have a Mini Holland Lop named Shylah; she’s 5, and we are wondering if getting her a friend would be a good idea or if her being a dominant female (spayed of course) would cause a problem. Thank you in advance.

Finding your little girl a friend should not be a problem. Even if she is a dominant female. I would suggest taking her on bunny dates so that she can chose the friend that she would like to have.

They say it’s easiest to bond a bunny with the opposite sex….so you may want to try a boy bun. Same gender bonds are possible, I have two boys – but if she’s that dominant and/or territorial, a boy may just be easier.

I decided to get Baxter a companion, because he always looked so bored 🙁 He never liked playing with the toys we bought him…and I didn’t want him to feel lonely. Now that he has a companion – his favorite activity is chasing baby Boo 🙂 But at least at night – they can cuddle and keep each other company when we’re asleep.

I agree with Skippers Mama. The best bet is to do bunny dates. I believe that most bunnies are bondable, it just depends on the dedication and knowledge of the human helping the bonding along.

I completely agree with LPT and SkippersMama.

I wouldn’t put any restrictions on female or male – just do some bunny dating and see which one your girl picks out. I don’t really believe the gender clause – bonding male and female is easier. It depends on personality. Yes, females can be more bossy. But I also know my girl is dominated by two of my males. (They have a bonded quartet). So it really depends on personality. Leave it up to your bun to decide and bonding will be much easier.

I also agree that almost every bun is bondable IF the human is willing to dedicate the time into the situation. Along with doing the research about bonding two bunnies. But some buns ARE just easier to bond so I definitely would suggest bunny dates!
