So I got Tyrion neutered yesterday and the rest of the day i kept him in his cage, he was really tired and laying in his litterbox (which he loves). But today he’s dying to come out and pacing around his cage and he loves hopping up on my bed when he gets out so it’s a guarantee that he will. Should I leave him in his cage or let him out? Also if anyone has advice for me or what to expect because this is my first bunny neuter that would be great

Boys tend to bounce back a lot quicker than girls. So yay for his quick recovery! I would try him out on a small area at first instead of giving him full access of his running area. If he does well I don’t see why you can’t give him more room. You just want to make sure that he’s not jumping on anything or doing crazy binkies. =]

How is his pooping and eating?

Yeah he’s pooping and eating like normal. He seems like he’s doing very well. I think I’ll let him walk around a little area first..thanks

Hmmm….I had an issue with trying to check the incision. What I had done for the first couple of days was slide a phone under my girl’s belly and take a photo of it. Then I had slid a mirror under it. >.< It was hard for me because she just wouldn't have any of it. The way my vet did it to check her incision was to sit on her knees and had Skipper's rump touching her knees. Then she gently took hold of Skipper's front paws and lifted up them up so that her torso had elongated so that she could check the incision.

I agree with SkippersMama about the run area.

To check incisions, I sit my bunnies on a towel on the table and gently lift up the front paws, just enough to take a quick peek. You could get a helper to shine a flashlight, if needed.

My boys were neutered 4 months apart…and both were pretty sluggish the first day after the procedure, and both ate a little – but not like normal on the 1st day. We separated them – to prevent chasing. 2nd day was much better, and by the 3rd day – they were pretty much back to normal. Recovery was easier on Baxter, who loved the grape flavored pain meds. Unfortunately, Boo wouldn’t accept it – so he was a little more sluggish on day 2.

The litter box habits took 2-3 weeks to return to normal after the procedure – so don’t expect perfection right away.

Okay I’ll try that. Maybe coax him to stand with a treat . When I brought him home yesterday he didnt eat much but today he’s eating normally. Thanks for the advice!

I agree to keep him away from the bed, but otherwise he can come out and run around in a safe area. I tried to confine my boy and he was going bonkers after a day (and he’s the laziest rabbit I’ve met) so I just let him free. As long as he’s not making huge flying leaps onto things, he’ll go at his own pace.
