New bunny owner here with a ??

This guy is great outside of his cage- I have found one pellet in a month of adopting him and I think that was just a mistake on his part. He is great!

However- he tends to poop all over his cage rather than in the litter box. Kind of a 50/50 split. Is there anything I can do to encourage litter box usage, or should I just count myself lucky he isnt pooping in the apartment?

Have you recently moved things around in his cage or has he always done that? Sounds like territorial marking. A lot of bunnies will do some poops outside the box. Mine do, especially at night, near their condo doors.

What size litter box do you have? Most bunnies that like their litter box are more likely to use it. It`s recommended that your litter box is big enough for bunny to lay down in. Also, do you put hay in the litter box? That often encourages litter box usage.

One other question: Do you use bedding material in his cage also? Like small animal bedding – wood shavings or paper product etc

Thane is the same, generally because his hay is on the other side of his cage and not near his litter tray. If Thane wasn’t so prone to UTIs I would have the hay closer to his litter tray, but that can’t be helped.

I would ask if he has lots of hay near his tray to chew on while he goes?
