        Hi there.

I feel a bit like I’m cheating, introducing myself pre-bunny… but I figure it’s best, especially if I decide to quit stalking the forum, and reply to someone’s thread.

I’m new to rabbit owning, as it’s taken me YEARS to get my husband to entertain the notion.  Fun fact, he did a 12 Days of Christmas for me, and one of the gifts, the hints all added up in my head to a white bunny with a green collar named Java. (Color hints, size hints, and it rhymed with a word in binary, when translated down, to Rajah. )   Sounds odd, but in my head, it worked!

Well, sadly, turns out that Rajah in turn, translates to tattoo. And a white and green box of Mori-nu tofu is sitting in my pantry.  I’ve never laughed so hard in my whole life.

It’s  been maddening. A friend got her kids two tiny lops, but her husband was having nothing to do with it… Before taking them back to the farm she got them, she tried to get me to keep them. Hubby was super adamant about not doing it then.

Now, it seems that my sister and her friends have joined the bunny cause.

Last week, a friend had texted me to say that the SPCA here in town had bunnies – and we should check it out.  Said friend used to have bunnies, so she’s become my enabler.   Poor hubs..

(Also, this friend and my sister, I guess have been talking about me in their belly dancing class. I got a text from my sister saying that another girl in their class was telling us that Southern Ag was selling bunnies, and had one with a line down its face – reminded her of Two Face, and hubs is a HUGE DC comic fan.   The friend who called me initially, is voting on a black bunny at the shelter, with a white ‘opera glove.’  Opera bunny.   Sadly, we probably won’t get either, since we don’t want to get one, have him get used to our house, then have someone else take care of it, at either our house or theirs…

He’s not 100% convinced yet, especially since he’s wary of bunnies chewing on cords. But he’s talking with me about it, and doing research with me. So, here…. that’s as close as I’ll get to him being okay with it.  ^_^ I keep telling him this bunny, with his luck, will end up becoming attached to him   – we’ll see.

Can’t get one for a few months, as we have a vacation scheduled, but that works out.  We have a spare room/library ish area we are planning to have the bunny’s house in. So we have time to get this second bookshelf in (done), clean and organize the room, find a good cage (we are wanting a small rex or lop. Nothing big.)  and have everything ready for when we are able to get one.

And, I’m going to stop there. I’ve practically written a book, and I don’t even have a bun yet! Oh geez….

        Tina

ps. Oh yes.  That’s not the hubs in my avatar….  It’s a favorite author, Tosca Lee. (Don’t tell him I used the picture with her, instead of him!)

It’s the only good picture I had on my phone when I set the profile up.  She’s super sweet, and very interesting. I’ve been lucky enough to meet her twice, and once, a small group of us went out to eat after her signing.  Was an absolute blast. Wonderful memory .

          Welcome Tina

Haha, well it’s not really cheating… Joining a forum is a great way to learn about rabbits before getting one. You’ll also pretty much get a whole bunch of new people on the “bunny cause”. Lol

Have you thought about fostering a rabbit? I think that could be a great option for your husband to see what having a house rabbit is like.

I’ve mentioned it, he wasn’t crazy about the idea. Not sure why . I may bring it up again.

He’s concerned I think, that it’ll make the house smell, or his cords will be chewed.

Maybe, since we have time to wait, as we bunny proof, set up the area, he’ll get more excited. And, no cords are in the room the bunny would stay in. So, while it gets acclimated, at least, it won’t be an issue. Now, later on…..Cord covers, for the win.:-)
