Just wondering whether i should insure Barney, i’m looking at about £12 a month which isn’t too bad, but i was wondering what all of your thoughts are on it?

Do you have insurance, have you found it to be useful or a waste of money? Thanks everyone! x

Personally, I don’t have pet insurance for my pets. I think it really depends on whether or not you have an emergency fund or can get the funds if something comes up. In my case, I have an emergency fund and getting the money on a moment’s notice isn’t a big issue, so I save the premium on insurance. If you know that money is tight and you may not have access to it when you need it, then insurance can be great. Some people have insurance and never really need it, but some end up using it all the time.

One thing to remember with pet insurance is that you still have to pay all charges up front and then you will be reimbursed whatever is reimbursable once you have submitted the claim form.

Thanks for both of your replies, Sarita I had completely forgotten that – perhaps easier for me to just pay the vet bills as they come rather than pay £10/15 a month thanks! x

I have insurance both for my rabbit and my dog. Never used it for the rabbit, hopefully I won’t ever have to. It came close last week though, when he had a stomach-problem. Vet bills are really expensive in Sweden. I would never dare to be without insurance for my pets, I couldn’t cope with having to put them down instead of treating them.

You can look into care credit. It’s a credit card you can use for vet bills. I think that if you pay it off at a certain time there isn’t any interest charge.
                  Should look that up

I’m not sure Care Credit is available in the UK…

I was looking into getting pet insurance last year but every place I contacted only insured cats and dogs not cats and rabbits. So I told them what they could do with their insurance.

If I only had one bunny and I were getting him/her as a baby I would definitely get insurance. With two bunnies, it would be too expensive and Bindi would not be covered since he’s had so many problems. Would have been very nice to have insurance on him. He’s a very expensive little dude.

Make sure to read all the fine print first. What it does and doesn’t cover.
