As some of you know i got my rescue bun Barney on Wednesday night, he’s settling in quite well and getting braver – he has hopped from his cage onto a shoe box, but no further yet! He keeps peering over the edge so hopefully he’ll jump out soon Anyway, I am worried about his teeth. I dont think i really have grounds for worry, but as my last bun Biscuit had terrible teeth, i want to check his to be safe!

So the question is; how do i check his teeth without scaring the little guy!? Thanks everyone x

Here’s a quick snap of him feeling a bit happier

Best is to have the vet check as you won’t be able to see potential problems without an otoscope.

Yes that’s just what i was thinking, I used to open Biscuit’s mouth for a quick look just to see that there was nothing obviously wrong – but dont want to scare this little bun He seems so small compared to Biscuit!

I agree with Sarita, it’s something to get checked in his first vet visit. I think you said in a previous post that you didn’t have a vet? (might have been someone else) Have you been able to find any rabbit savvy ones in your area?

I have recently moved to a different county, and havent been set up with a rabbit savvy vet here (as bunny was a surprise!) may feel more comfortable in going back to my one at home, who are wonderful and cared for Biscuit so well. I will be going back in just under 3 weeks, think that would be ok?

I was thinking of the right person! Go memory.

I don’t think it would hurt your bun to wait to go to the vet you’re comfy with but it might be beneficial to find a closer one in case you have an emergency. Unless traveling for an emergency is not an issue?

You were! Yes definitely, the ones close to where i am now arent ones i’d like to frequent regularly, so i’ll go for check ups and any necessary surgery (neutering) at home, and i’ll have an emergency one here x

I used to hold a piece of flat veg like cabbage vertically so by bunny’d show me his teeth when he tried to bite it ( he was very grumpy and I didn’t want to be bitten myself ) I needed to check as he had long term tooth problems, I would open his mouth with my fingers too, but it made him very angry, so I didn’t do that as often. I’d give the cabbage to him after, obviously
