Might as well make an official hello topic now that I’ve posted a question elsewhere.

I’ll start by introducing the bunny. I’ve had my little girl Bandit for over a month now. I found her at a flower and bird market here in the city where they also sold small animals such as rabbits, hamsters, and mice. I had actually been eying  another bun who seemed very interested in me, but she was in a cage just below him and she was just as anxious to check me out. I asked the stall owner if I could get a good look at her, and when I touched her she melted, put her head down and closed her eyes. She’s been such a joy to have.

I’m having a hard time figuring out her breed. I can’t get my pictures to work so I’ll describe her as best as I can. She’s small, maybe about 2 or 3 pounds. Her fur is almost all ashy gray, except for dark gray fur on her ears, muzzle, and paws. She has a white band of fur around the scruff of her neck, which earned her the name Bandit (although I call her Dizzy sometimes when she starts binkying around my feet).

She’s really a wonderful friend. Nothing beats coming home after a long day, letting her out of her pen to see me, and having her flop at my feet.

Now about me: I’m 24 years old and I’m currently working overseas in China until the fall this year. I’m originally from Massachusetts. I work as a foreign English teacher here. I got Bandit when I settled into my new apartment here and intend to take her back to the States when my contract is up. Other than playing with my bun I’m also an artist and a photographer, but I also have a bit of a nerdy side as well. Okay, maybe not “a bit”. Bandit’s helped me get over the homesickness that tends to spring up often, she came at exactly the right time.

          Welcome, Nashida and Bandit!
Please feel free to post pix in the Lounge so we can all admire your little Bandit.
          (I’m originally from MA, too.)

Welcome! I like her name. That’s really cute!

I couldn’t guess at her breed but the colour you described might be Smoke Pearl? The white around her neck sounds like what some Dutch Marked rabbits get. This happens in many breeds though and is to do with a gene. So that doesn’t really help discover her breed… Lol

She sounds like a little Gem. : )

Other than playing with my bun I’m also an artist and a photographer

There’s a current thread in the Lounge to share artwork. I hope you’ll join in.

            You too RabbitPam! ; )

When I looked up Smoke Pearl that sounds exactly like her color. Her ears have flopped, but sometime her left ear will stand straight up like a shark fin. And she has very long fur. I thought maybe it’s akin to a Lionhead but maybe not.

Nashida, you mentioned that you brought her with you to China and plan to bring her back to the states when your contract is up. Does that involve a lot of paperwork and permission?

The reason I ask is that a few years back we had a member in China who wanted to come here (or Canada possibly) with their bunny and it turned out to be a bureaucratic challenge. I don’t really remember whether they came directly here with their bunny, rerouted here via Canada, or re-homed their pet in China before leaving. As I said, this was a while ago, and I think the bunny was born in China, not brought over from the States in the first place.

Anyway, if you know how that works for visitors to China on a temp. contract who have brought over their pets, I think other members would find the info. really interesting. If you don’t feel like it’s an invasion of your privacy, maybe you could start a new post in the Lounge to tell us about how you will arrange the transport home. Many members ask about plane travel, customs, vet documentation, etc. Since we’re global in our membership, it’s a topic that pops up often.
Don’t feel you have to. Maybe you won’t be researching those logistics until you’re ready to leave, so it won’t be current info. until that time anyway. Just wanted to mention it to you.

Meanwhile, we’re enjoying the post on artwork. JerseyGirl is prodding me to add to it. MimzMum has posted drawings her daughter makes in the past. We need her to add to that, too!

Thanks for the mention. I definitely will share what I can find. It’s still a long time away, I won’t be heading back to the States until October. I actually got her here in China, she didn’t come over here with me.

It’s actually going to be quite interesting, as I will book my flight with my employer so I have to use whatever airline they’ve chosen.

I really hope things have changed and you don’t have difficulties. I also recall another member here who had lived in China for a while. She sadly had to find her rabbit a new home before returning to Canada. This was some years ago though.

Definitely wise to find out the laws so you can plan ahead.

I also wanted to show this photo. The newest rabbit of member tanlover14. Does Bandit have long fur similar to this?
