Our new bun, Munch, who is a 1 1/2 year old mini-lop has been chasing our cat. The cat has been with us for about a year. She was used to our old rabbit (who passed) who was pretty quiet. Munch is a jumping, zooming, binkying happy boy. He really seems to enjoy chasing Callie (who, by the way, is a 19 lb. calico) out of a room when he is spunky. He doesn’t seem to nip or bonk her. He just runs straight for her and she heads for the hills.

We’ve been pretty astounded when watching this and laugh our heads off at the sight of our big kitty being chased by our little bully. Should we discourage it somehow? Should we just let them work it out over time?

I would just make sure to watch the two to make sure that a fight doesn’t break out between them or that your cat doesn’t bat Munch. My Skipper is in LOVE with my bf’s parents’ cat Willow. When ever we take her over there Skipper goes NUTS and runs after Willow demanding to be groomed and get attention from her. So it’s not to uncommon for buns to be infatuated with cats. =p Skipper and Willow were able to work their differences out and Willow grooms the little bun diva. =p I would just let Munch and Callie work it out but make sure that there is no fighting and Callie doesn’t try to attack Munch.

Thanks. I should have noted that Callie is declawed. She has hissed at Munch, but then she just darts off.

My rabbits definitely show mine and my roommates cats whose boss They cats hang out in the rabbit room all the time, but if I happen to pull out treats the rabbits will charge the cats. It’s pretty hilarious… and obviously the cats were really going to steal the dried fruit treats

Oh and don’t be alarmed. Munch may try to to hump Callie. Skipper used to try to do that to Willow and Willow would get so mad. So we would have to separate the two of them and let Willow go play in the screened porch to cool down. =p

Had the same situation with my Bridge Mini-Rex, Stormy. He was total boss of our cats. We had 5 at one point. We had one cat who was pretty grumpy and he liked to especially pick on her. If she was on the couch, he would chase her off and out of the living room. All the cats were pretty weary of him. He also liked to try to bite their tails.

I had to watch closely interaction with him and my grumpy cat because she would try to swat at him, which would make him more bratty towards her. There was never any injuries, though. She would leave before things got too bad.

I didn’t really know how to discourage it. I just told him “Stormy…NO”. Hard not to laugh when a 3 lb rabbit is the boss of a bunch of cats. We called him “the 3lb terror”.

I’ve been letting my 5 month old bun Panda and our 15 year old cat Pooka get used to each other gradually. Panda really wants to be friends with the cat but she isn’t having it. The cat sits still while Panda is in the room but once she gets in Pooka’s space Pooka jumps down and walks away with the bun hopping after her. Pooka hissed once but did not do anything. This doies not deter Panda who keeps following until the cat leaves the room and I close the door behind her to give her a break. She seems to be annoyed but nothing more. I am hoping they will end up friends because Pooka adored our two dogs who both passed away this October.
