        Hi guys,

So, we’re pretty sure we’ve pegged Socks as a mini rex based on appearance (and the fact that she’s stopped growing at <5.5lbs), and I just had a few general grooming questions:

She seems to be shedding quite a bit of fur lately, so I’ve been trying to give her a brush-down daily, just to catch any loose hairs, etc. Problem is, I’ve seen a few sites that say to NEVER brush a rex or bunny with rex fur because it could damage some structural thing to do with the hair? But what else would I do to deal with the shedding? I’d rather not wait and find out the hard way if she’s ingesting it…

This is the type of brush that we’ve been using

Also, Socks has (well… had) white feet. Is it really okay to use a bit of vinegar to dab and try to get some of the stains off? Or is there something she might balk at a bit less that could be used instead?

        Thanks!

          Oh I remember Socks!

I don’t have any advice about brushing but regarding her feet, I’d be wary of using vinegar. Rexes don’t have a lot of fur on their hocks and I’d worry the vinegar would irritate the skin that already has little protection. If there is any inflamed skin, vinegar would sting.
You could try rubbing cornstarch into them then lightly brushing it out. The yellowing though can be stubborn and its usually a matter of waiting until it fades.

What type of litter are you using?

I’ll give corn starch a try.

As for litter, we’re currently using about 2/3 CareFresh Ultra, with just enough wood shavings on top to cover the CareFresh. You’ll be happy to know she has also handled the transition to no bedding on the bottom of her cage like a champ, (thankfully) keeping the mess in her litter box!

I found the best thing that worked for my Mini-Rex was a Small Animal Furminator, used very gently. And the wet hands method.
