        Hi All,

Long story short. Became vicariously involved in a rescue in Intercourse Pennsylvania via the local Rabbit Rescue when a post was added. There are buns that have been abandoned and the people who discovered them have virtually been camping out at dawn and dusk each day to get them, they are being assisted by Rabbit Wranglers (Thanks Tanlover, your Run for Rabbits sent me in their direction) There are still two rabbits to be caught, a possibly pregnant female and a baby. Thankfully the bun of the greatest concern was caught several hours ago. The concern was caused by an extreme mite infestation. The Rabbit Wrangler vet for the area is away till Monday and the emergency vet wants $1000 to attend the practice and treat the bun. Just not do-able!!!!!!!! The bun should get fast tracked at the Rescue vet on Monday but Elizabeth his rescuer is extremely concerned and would like to offer him some relief before then. Can anyone suggest something or an emergency vet within travelling distance that will not take advantage and charge the national debt for treatment ?

I should mention that the rescuers found Rabbit Wranglers before I sent them the link and already had rescue operations in full swing..

              As per Medirabbit: 0.2 – 0.4 mg/kg given subcutaneously.

If not that, at least a dose of Revolution could start to give relief.

Both ears and his little eyes look sore but not crusted. Elizabeth is absolutely heart sick that he has to wait for treatment but $1000 is a lot of money. I know I certainly couldn’t come up with it on short notice.

It seems ridiculous amount of money. Maybe she can get in touch with other Rabbit Rescues to find out what they do. Surely some would have supplies to treat this in-house.

I believe from my responses back from the rescue the the town Elizabeth is in is quite a way from Pittsburgh where the rescue is based. It’s whole success has come about from Elizabeth’s dedication to rescuing the buns.

                      OMG, that poor little bunny!

That makes me so sad when vets act selfishly like that.

Such a sad situation. I wish I could help.

He’s in very good hands with Elizabeth. The amazing determination to rescue all of the buns that were dumped and the love and caring he is being given. He’s been a bit standoffish and aggro but that’s understandable and I am sure that once his mites are treated he is going to have a wonderful life.

Poor baby! I was thinking along the same lines as Jersey. I don’t see why a dose of Revolution couldn’t hurt to start killing off the infection.

The rescuers have decided to err on the side of caution with any meds until they see the vet and get a clear picture of his overall condition.
I agree with their reasoning, it would be horrible to have gotten this far and loose him because he had a reaction.
Only 12 or so hours till the vet appointment now. Will keep everyone updated.

This is appalling, Elizabeth has been stopped from rescuing the remaining rabbits. She is distraught, the man that confronted forced her to release the rabbit she had trapped at the time (the little white guy is still safe in her custody.

OMG, this is heart wrenching! Hopefully the property owner will be reasonable after it hits media.

She might need to involve animal control to protect herself from being done for trespassing. She could offer to assist with any rabbits they capture. Hopefully they’d allow that???

While the property owners and residents might not understand the perils the rabbits face being there, they may also not understand what’s happening to them being trapped and removed. I can see why that might be distressing to them.

It’s possible that the man who confronted her is not even a member of staff but possibly the cretin that dumped the rabbits. Management isn’t in till Monday, I am hoping Elizabeth can talk to them and get their support for the rescue. There is a blizzard forecast there for Tuesday and she is desperate to get the other two buns. One a baby the other possibly pregnant. I hope she gets them before anymore are born.

How many have been taken in? Have the females been checked to see if lactating?
I’m all for dealing with feral populations so they aren’t at risk, but I hate the thought that nursing Does are removed too prematurely. Unless the kits are found too.
Since they burrow, they do have some protection against the weather. Their food source maybe be diminishing though. :\

Looks like the white bun is the only on got out at this stage, I think there might be one other. There are two definitely left to catch.
The man that chased Elizabeth off the property told her that there were others but they had been eaten (by other wild life) he apparently thought the condition of the one they got out was amusing. Grrrrrrrrr! Reminds me of the situation with my buns when they were rescued.

Hmm…maybe animal control should be called in to capture this man instead.

I agree, hopefully if he is responsible they can get him for dumping and if he is misrepresenting himself the facility may be able to press charges.

Creep identified as a maintenance worker, not even the senior maintenance guy just his sidekick. The person who dumped the buns is apparently their laundry worker.  Elizabeth has been provided with the managers name and is going to contact him.

Rabbit Wranglers took up the direct contact with the care facility. I don’t have all the details just the wonderful news that the rescue effort has the green light again.
The remaining buns will be saved. Elizabeth and hopefully some volunteers will be back out ASAP trying to get the little ones to safety.
