Carter just got fixed Wednesday morning, and when I brought him home I noticed he stopped drinking water. I called the vet the next morning and brought him back they gave him an I.V. and some Vitamin B I think it was, but he didn’t drink yesterday and when I got home today it looked like there was a little gone from the water bottle. I don’t know if he actually drank it or if it leaked into his water dish. But he has a water dish too.

        Any ideas?

Wen you give him veggies put water on them
Is he acting sluggish? How is his temperament right now?

He is a little more sluggish then usual, but he’s pretty laid back. His temperament is okay, nothing out of the ordinary. he’s eating and urinating so there are no issues there either.

Did the vet give him subcutaneous fluids? My rabbit got that when he was neutered so he didn’t have to drink as much as he normally does. I was also told to give him water in a bowl instead of the bottle since they can be reluctant to drink from a bottle when they’re sore and weak.

If he eats and urinates he should be fine soon I’d think. Othewise you could perhaps feed him water with a syringe?

That’s what Ijust started. I am freaking out because I do not want him to dehydrate. I have no idea what kind of fluids they gave him, I just know that he got some. I have always given him water in a bowl as well as a water bottle but he is not drinking from either. I can’t even really get him to drink from a syringe. I don’t understand why he is not drinking, he’s perfectly fine otherwise. Eating healthy, binkying, hoping around being a normal bunny.

Maybe th subQ fluids have been enough supply especially on top of the veggies. If he is binkying about and running and playing I wouldn’t be too worried. Just keep a close eye on him and maybe mark the water bottle in the morning and see if the water has gone down any by the evening?

If they gave him some SubQ fluids he will most likely not be drinking as much water a usual because he’s getting it from the fluids. His drinking should be picking up once the fluids are gone. I would just watch his litter habits (make sure he’s still peeing & pooping) and that he’s not getting lethargic.

He’s still peeing and pooping and hes not lethargic. Are these fluids enough to keep him going for a few days? Or just a few hours?

It depends on how much your vet gave him. The couple of times my eat gave my girl SubQ fluids it lasted a couple of days. If you look at your bun you can actually see the fluids and where they settled. Skipper looked like a swollen bunny with big chunky arms because the fluid would settle on the sides of her front legs.

Could be a few days, but my best advice is to get advice about this particular situation from the vet.
