I finally found Tesla some Oxbow pellets and picked up a BIG bag of it because the store that carries them is an hour drive away.

Now that he has good pellets, what should I do about fresh veggies? He’s only a little thing, I would say under 4lbs (he’s a baby mini-rex) so I don’t want to give him too much, but I know fresh veggies are good for him so I want him to have some, every thing I read is for adult rabbits and how much they should get so any suggestions for a baby mini-rex, he loves fresh carrots ( i give him a small chunk of fresh carrot every few days when he’s out running around)

I wouldn’t introduce veggies until 4+ months and start with only one veggie at a time so you can pinpoint which veggies upset his stomach. The first one I introduced to Harley was romaine because it’s like the base of his salad now lol
Sally still doesn’t like veggies yet and she is almost 6 months! but she has finally shown interest in Parsley but that’s it. I’m hoping with time she will expand her interest of veggies because I don’t have too much parsley (grow my own) so she only gets very little lol

Tesla gets the tiniest bit of carrot as a special treat maybe once a week right now, it’s less than the size of my pinky and he loves it. But that’s all I give him so far, and it’s a special treat.

              I would definitely read this : Rabbit.org – Diet

It has a lot of good information. Do you know how old you bunny is? The link I posted above will show you the recommended diet for each age group.

If he’s over 9 weeks, I would introduce one green leafy staple, like romaine (which has a strong flavor) or green leaf lettuce, which is mild. only use that for at least 2 weeks or longer. Just about a 1/2 cup maximum should be fine. Definitely read through the Diet section of the site, and also go to the Diet section of HRS, http://www.rabbit.org. (House rabbit society)

What you want is to very slowly introduce veggies, with little change and variety at first. So, don’t try anything new without spacing them apart by 1-2 weeks at least. A bunny will not get bored when they are young. But their tummies are delicate so any change can temporarily disturb their digestion. A tiny carrot treat is fine.

NBO123: If Sally is now 6 months, I would do the opposite and start trying her on new veggies. Not quickly, but if she isn’t eating what you’ve tried, it may be a family of greens she doesn’t like. Like broccoli, kale and romaine are all in the strong tasting family, the green leaf, parsleys and mint are much softer flavors for example. Try what isn’t like any you’ve tried before and see if she just has a preference. Sammy loves romaine and hates red leaf, for example. You want to find about 3 staples that she will eat routinely. Cut back on pellets or treats (but continue unlimited hay) in case she’s filling up on those and doesn’t have room for the “good dinner” foods.

Awesome, tomorrow is payday so that means it’s off to the grocery store for some fresh veggies. I’m excited to see what he was like.
We had corn with dinner last night while Tesla was having some out of cage time and he came up and sniffed at the corn on my plate, but I didn’t share any with him (I didn’t remember if it was ok, and it was covered in butter and garlic)

I caught one of the boys trying to feed Tesla a piece of popcorn (the plane kind that doesn’t come out of a bag that is microwavable, the kind we have is just the kernels that we pop on the stove), took that away as soon as I noticed it, luckily Tesla was sleeping in his hidey hole.

Corn is not okay – I wouldn’t want to share it anyway, it sounds so yummy with the garlic and butter :~)

I didn’t share and it was super tasty! hehe.
Tesla is a very curious bunny, he is always poking his nose into everything, I was painting my nails the other day and he came up and started sniffing at them!
