I’m a little confused on a proper diet for my bunny, Oreo…

I feed her a lot of pellets, and as close to unlimited timothy hay as possible…but I ran out of pellets about 2-3 days ago, so I’ve only been feeding her mass amounts of hay…

Am I starving my poor baby??? I haven’t been able to get to the store for her food because my work schedule has been obnoxious this week… Poor little Oreo has been literally jumping off the walls of her cage begging for her pellets…

Any advice would be greatly appreciated=]

There is not a need to feed a rabbit pellets if you supplement the vitamins that they are not getting from the pellets with extra vegetables. I know you’re out of pellets and doing a pellet free diet may sound good, I would talk to your vet before doing anything.

Is there any way you can get pellets? I say in the mean time just feed him some extra greens. To and up for the lack of vitamins that your bun is not getting through the pellets.

I will be able to get pellets, but not until late tomorrow…do you think she’ll be okay until then? She’s had plenty of water, treats and hay…I’ve given her unlimited hay…

The only reason I’m not giving her pellet food is because she ran out and every work shift I’ve had since then has gone past the closing time of her pet store…=/ So tomorrow it will have been 3-4 days since she’s had pellets…but she’s eaten a ton of hay. She won’t starve by tomorrow night, will she?

              Are you feeding veggies?

I tried to give her some lettuce, but she refuses to eat it. Unfortunately, until tomorrow night that’s all I have

Please check out the diet section of this website: https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/tabid/53/CategoryID/2/PID/940/Default.aspx

Generally speaking bunnies should be eating daily:
                  1/4 – 1/2 cup pellets per 6lbs
                  Unlimited Hay
                  1-2 cups veggies per 6lbs

I don’t think your bunny is going to starve before tomorrow evening but I do think it’s really important for you to look into expanding her daily diet. Bunnies that don’t get pellets generally need a wider variety of veggies to stay healthy.

I’m more concerned about the lack of any greens in your daily diet. More than the pellets, which are like a supplement to her food not a staple, you need to have fresh veggies twice a day. Do NOT feed iceberg lettuce – it’s not good because it’s all water and no nutrition. But a big head of romaine lettuce that will last about a week can give your bunny the nutrition needed along with the hay. Also, please check out the list of many, many other fresh veggies she can have by going to that link.
Your bunny will be OK without pellets until tomorrow (today?). Try a carrot, or carrot tops, green leaf lettuce, even the non-seed part of cucumbers if you have any in your house today. Of course, a small carrot will be good too. An apple slice of a couple of 1/4 inch banana slices are treats, but filling. You want her to have fresh food with the hay. Don’t forget to keep that water dish clean and full all the time, too.

It’s time to find a workable regimen around your job. Trust me, I’ve been there.
