Jingles has become a BIG chewer. He’s chewing his wood blocks to death, and the carpet in his cage is becoming shreds..he’s not eating the carpet just chewing it. He keeps flipping his litter box, and I don’t want him to sit in all his mess, either. So, I can’t even tell if he’s using his litter box or not..cause by the time i get home its on the floor of his cage..AHHH!  I’m wanting to get him fixed, but i’ve got to make the money first..so for now its a BIG problem.  What’s some things to help this decrease or get better..?

How long is he allowed out each day and does he have hay in his cage? He definitely sounds bored and frustrated, which neutering will help with. However rabbits from six months to a year undergo adolescence and are naturally insane. During this time it is crucial that your rabbit gets enough exercise otherwise the hormones could build up causing aggression or other problems.

You can tie or binder clip the litter box in place. Punch a few holes and tie it to the cage/nic/fence.

Sounds like you have a teenager on your hands. Try giving him a cardboard box to chew on or something sturdier than wood blocks. If you can’t fit a box in his cage to entertain him while you’re not home, get a puppy pen for him. I’m looking into upgrading my bunny’s small cage to a puppy pen so she can run around instead of being bored locked up in a cage all day. With more room, they can do more stuff during the day as long as you provide them with stuff like boxes to chew on, phone books to shred up, toys to play with… etc. The first thing I learned when I got a bunny: A bored bunny is a naughty bunny.

Sounds like it’s both. You can ask your vet if a payment plan might be possible for you to get it done sooner and pay in installments, if that would help decrease the time you live with adolescent bunny behavior.
