I have FINALLY gotten Sally to eat a green and it was Parsley! I then offered romaine, radicchio, celery, spinach, dill, a carrot. She turned her head on everything! Can a bun only eat Parsley? I really want her to like veggies like Harley because I feel like I’m giving them a treat and Sally is just eh. What other things can I try to give her? She is a picky one I want her to get on veggies before her spay so it will be easy t get her eating again. She’s almost 6 months old and has only JUST now nibbled on Parsley and she wasn’t even that enthusiastic either. I need some ideas for picky buns! She’s lucky Harley gladly takes what she refuses so I’m not sitting her wasting all these veggies lol if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t keep buying veggies because she refuses so much and that would be ALOT of money down the drain because I’m not the biggest veggie eater :p

Maybe try some other fragrant greens/herbs like kale, mint, basil, cilantro.

This is not unusual for rabbits. You can also try waving the veggie in front of her nose/mouth to annoy her to make her grab and taste it.

Try kale, my buns love that. They also eat turnip greens, mint, BASIL (that is their favorite and was the first thing my picky bun decided to eat), dill, fennel tops, dandelion greens, romaine, baby arugula, water cress, cilantro, carrot tops, and endive. Bok choy and chard are two things they arent really fond of but will eat. Stay away from feeding her too much Parsley, and I wouldnt be trying to give her carrots or spinach as those should only be 15% of the diet. Look on this website for suggested vegetables http://www.rabbit.org/care/veggies.html I found it to be very helpful when trying to get my buns to start eating veggies.

Yes I know to limit carrots and spinach. I only offered one leaf and gave Harley half the carrot I just want to give her a tasty snack every once in awhile but she doesn’t enjoy it! I’ll def look into the kale though. I’ve actually already tried cilantro and mint and was very surprised she turned it down!

I need to find a veggie she likes that can be the base of her salad. So is Kale ok on a daily basis if she does chose to eat it?

When I wave different veggies in her face she will just end up running away instead. Usually when I offer it I put it right up against her nose and she smells it and then turns away and hops off.

Parsley is a favorite here too and usually that’s the only thing I get for them. Another top one is dandelion greens but I find this hard to obtain; many times the ones at the grocery stores are bad if there is any at all. Generally herbs will work and I’ve taken to grow a little bit. Mines HATE kale. One of my buns is a little piggy and he won’t touch kale so I’ve had a whole bag just go to waste (I’m not a veggie eater).

I also put out the word to my friends if they have left over vegetables. This really helped narrowing down what they liked. Most people have left over vegetables that was still good they’d be willing to part with.

I will def have to look into the dandelion greens too then. Can you give parsley and kale and dandelions and such on a daily bases though? Harley seems to eat ANYTHING you offer him so I am confident that when I do buy a new veggie to test it won’t go to waste because he wouldn’t mind eating it.

Kale is fine each day. Make sure you read the article that Samantha linked you to in it’s entirety and it should answer any questions.

Parsley shouldnt be fed everyday, kale is fine so are dandelion greens. Not sure where you live but the dandelion greens I get at publix are organic and they are usually pretty good. All the vegetables I feed my buns can be fed on a daily basis except the chard. Definitely try Basil and Kale, mine like dandelion greens but the first thing they go for is the basil.

I use arugula as a base for my bun’s salad. It’s fairly well priced where I live so it makes a good staple. I then add cilantro, dill, and mint to it. I do add kale here and there. I try to limit the kale because it can cause a calcium build up.

Mine love wild fennel fronds…and also broccoli leaves, nasturtium leaves, mint and sweet basil. They won’t eat a lot of the popular greens especially any of the lettuces. I recently tried some wild rocket and they enjoyed that.

I agree with the dandelion greens. They’re a really strong, distinct bitter taste (going along the very fragrant veggie idea.) When I have them sometimes I put them into my salads and can barely stand them, but I feel the need to eat them. Buster goes CRAZY for them! One day I set my groceries down and within half a second he was over munching on it sticking out of the bag.
I need to go to the really big grocery stores around here to find them though. Like miaeih said, sometimes they can be kind of wilty or gross. I wouldn’t buy them if that’s the case, but just a suggestion: when you’re storing them in the fridge, once a day put some cool water on the leaves and on the ends. It will keep them from wilting, because I find by the end of the bundle it’s always really limp.

Have you tried any swiss chard? (Remember to rotate these out, as per that website.) Buster doesn’t like it, but I feel like bunnies should really enjoy it for some reason. I think because it’s like kale, and they usually all seem to love kale!

When Tait was a baby he wanted nothing to do with veggies, so my vet recommended shredding the carrots and ripping up the greens into small pieces to make them look more like pellets. And I also reduced his pellets just a bit. It took him about a week to start trying the veggies, but once he realized they were good, he would eat them in bigger chunks. For him it was more about he didn’t know how to go about eating this weird new food, than that he didn’t like it.

Maybe this is something you could try with Sally?
