My bun Gumby will not eat his greens. It’s been a problem since I’ve gotten him. So I’ve been trying to do trial and error with the veggies. He hates them all. If I try to put them near him, he will sniff it, them run away. I do have another bun, Honey Bun. She loves romaine lettuce and Gumby sees her eat the romaine everyday. It seems like he is interested in the romaine because of Honey Bun but he will still not touch it. Should I stop his pellets until he eats his greens? He has a poopy butt all they time and I have to give me weekly (sometimes twice a week) butt baths. What should I do??

        Greens I’ve tried:

        -Romaine

        -Tomatoes

        -Cucumbers

        -Cranberries

        -Green Bell Peppers

Any advice would help!! THANKS SO MUCH!!

          No, don’t stop pellets.

I would however suggest you read this article on suggested veggies in it’s entirety, not just the list – those veggies you mentioned probably aren’t the best to give other than Romaine.

Try some of the others on the list.

However, He does eat the full carrots occassionally. Does that count as greens??

Oh no, you don’t want to feed him a full carrot – if you read the link that I provided this will give you all the information you need on what greens and veggies are appropriate to feed.

Carrots should only be 15% of their total veggie diet. A full carrot is way too much. Really read the article, it is full of good information.

Carrots are really sugary so should be used as a treat (like fruit.)

I find Buster will only eat romaine for a few days, and then he gets bored. My rotation is usually:

Romaine (usually with some cilantro / parsley)

                Dandelion Greens

                Green leaf lettuce

                Kale

Sometimes I’ll buy other things, but those are his favourite. (I feed them to him until the whole thing is gone and will then buy the next thing.)
Can you afford some spring mix? (Check to make sure everything in the spring mix is okay for buns.) It might be good because they have different tastes in it, of different lettuces.
I printed off the list from this and if I’m feeling adventurous I’ll stray from his normal veggies. It’s really helpful because it goes into detail about the different veg’s.

                Good luck!

Edit: sorry, just realized somebody else had given that link too

Well carrots aren’t really sugary – they are higher in sugar than say romaine or cilantro but they do provide fiber as well. They are okay as a portion of a rabbit’s diet – a small portion as per the article we are suggesting you read.

There is a lot more out there that you could try. Don’t worry too much. My buns have gotten very picky lately. I’m not sure, but I think the veggies have been more bitter tasting lately. I try to get the baby lettuces, like in the Spring Mix, and they seem to do better eating those.

My buns favorites are Dandelion, Endive, Parsley (feed in moderation) and kale. Maybe you could give one of these a try.
