They sit next to the letterbox and eat the hay and poop next to the box. How do I stop them doing this? There box is clean too!

Is there too much hay in the litter box? My little girl is really particular with how much hay she likes in her box. If there is too much she refuses to even jump in the box. I would try messing with how much hay is in the box. Also, if you notice that they like using the litter box in one particular area put a small layer on top it and a larger clump right next to the spot. So that way they can chomp and go in their favorite spot at the same time. My foster loves to use the left and right corner of his litter box so I clump his hay in the middle of his box for him. I would, also, pick up the poos and toss them into the litter box. Whenever you see some stray poos just keep tossing them in there. After a while of doing this they may get the idea of going in there.

I keep my hay where they can’t eat it unless they jump into the litter box. works for me, I had the same problem before. It still happens sometimes when the hay fall closer to thefront of the box.

A bigger litter box would make it so you can put a pile in the back and they have to jump in to get to it. If that doesn’t work, you could always try a hack rack hung above the litter box so they have to be in the litter box in order to reach it.

If you have a determined bun, there’s not much you can do. Mine will grab a piece of hay or vege or a mouthful of pellets from the box and hop out if she can’t reach in from outside the box. Sometimes it’s even taken to another room. If I stay and make sure she stays in the box, once I walk away she’ll hop back out. This happens regardless of how big the box is.
