We are currently suffering from a bit of an ant problem. They are coming into the house for any water or food they can find. I try to keep the bunnies room as clean as possible but still the ants are finding there way into their room! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can use to repel and or kill them that won’t harm the buns?  I have tried to find where they are coming from but haven’t been able to.

Hi Floppy buns, I am finally ant free after a three year campaign… Perth has a huge ant problem. I have had to constantly ant sand every nest in the garden and an area atleast 3 feet around it as they create new exits and entrances to avoid the poison. It has to be a committed campaign involving your neighbours as doing just one property doesn’t work. I suspect the primary nest was under my neighbours house as it finally took a massive three repeated spraying by a professional exterminator plus all of us laying poison to slow them down. Inside the house you could try a borax solution in areas around the buns that they can’t access.
Currently I am dealing with bush roaches…(aaarrrrgh) they aren’t your usual dirty house variety they are the little flat orange ones that are actually pretty. They normally would stay in the garden of bush and live off the leaf matter but because of the heat they are coming into the bunny room after the hay and water, I think some of them have actually travelled in the bags of hay. As I said they like leaf and plant material especially if its dry or starting to break down. Whilst they are harmless I would prefer they stayed out of doors and conventional roach baits won’t work as they are not your conventional roach.

Well, vinegar worked for the few ants I had come wanderign in, but peppermint oil, and ground cinnamon works too, if you can find hte holes they are coming in at. Coat the hole in peppermint oil, or sprinkle the cinnamon all around it, and they’ll turn away.

I’m having this problem too Floppybuns. They’re invading my kettle & glasses seeking the water.

I put borax with sugar and also borax and Parmesan (the powder kind) to bait them.

Good to know about Peppermint and Cinnamon. Will have to give that a go.

Make sure its a good, strong cinnamon. There are different types, so check and make sure its a nice fragrant one

It could, give it a try. I’ve never tried a cinnamon oil, myself.
