Hey guys, long time!  My husband went to a new feed store for bedding and saw a 15 lb bag of pellets that was cheaper than what I paid for Oxbow.  He didn’t get it and wanted to see if it was about the same or better, nutrition wise.  I don’t know much about what all rabbits need for protein and everything, so I thought I’d ask here.  It’s called Buckeye rabbit pellets.  I looked it up online and found the nutrition guide.  We usually get Oxbow Adult Rabbit.

         Buckeye’s:

        FEATURES:
        • Designed for rabbits being raised for pets, show, or meat production
        • Excess vitamins added to compensate for loss during pelleting
        • Proper ratio of carbohydrates and fiber to minimize the risk of enteritis
        • Contains Yucca Schidigera Extract to help control ammonia odor

          Omgoodness hello!
          Hope motherhood is wonderful!

Yes, the alfalfa meal would be like feeding oxbow junior pellets. The fibre is not great in the feed store pellets either but you could feed them, just in a very small quantity. HRS doesn’t indicate pellets have to be Timothy from memory.

I wonder why the max protein is never indicated? I always thought the ideal was to keep protein lower then fibre for their feed. Bit hard to tell when not given max protein %

Thanks Jersey! Maybe we’ll just stick to what we know then, I don’t want to mess any of their stomachs up. I’ll type an update in the lounge 🙂

HELLO! Haven’t seen you around in a long time!

I would stick to Oxbow. I agree with Jersey with the Alfalfa meal.
