I brought home my holland lop doe Cornflake about 4 weeks ago… She’s about 3 months old now and has taken some time to get to know me. In the beginning she used to bite my hand when i offered it to her… I even bled once! I’ve tried shouting “NO” at her, turning y back on her, yelping in pain, but she still continues to do it every now and then. She seems to be more comfortable with me now and she hops towards me, and periscopes at me, and today she started off licking my hands, and then the licking stopped and she started nipping me!! What in the world is going on?? I don’t understand … help someone??

Nipping is sometimes used by baby buns as a way for them to try play with you. Flin used to do this with me (actually she still sometimes does) but just do a short high pitched yelp, enough to give your bun a fright but not so that they run away, then give them attention again.

Is it too early for her to be hitting puberty?
I don’t know what age that usually happens, but I know that their behavior can change drastically once they hit puberty.

Nipping is just a form of communication for them and isn’t necessarily aggressive…since they have fur, they aren’t nearly as sensitive to teeth. Unfortunately, we are generally pretty fur-less and tend to be a lot more scared of biting/nipping. Try to keep on discouraging her when she nips you, but starting to think about a spay in a couple of months is definitely a good idea in general.

Thanks all… I’ll keep trying… it’s just so strange with the licking and nipping for me… my other buns just licked me.

It’s sounds like your bunny does exactly what mine does – she comes up to me and starts licking my hand and then will start nipping it, I think bunnies use their teeth whilst grooming each other and this is what they’re doing. I never had that with my boy though, he only licks.
