Tonight for the first time I felt that Charley has nipples. I handle her several times a day and it’s like they literally appeared out of no where lol.

I was wondering if this is indicative of if she is coming into puberty. I’ve noticed shes becoming really particular about her fleece blanket/bed. She will nudge or toss off anything placed on it. I haven’t noticed any aggression or other changes though. It also looks like shes forming a dew lap. Do all breeds get dew laps and is it puberty related? (I’ve read even boys can get them also).

Im not sure about her age or breed, but am guessing she is around 3 months old now and a mix. Puberty usually hits around 4 months right? I’m trying to determine how old she is to plan out her spay. The vet I am taking her to is quite a ways away or I would just run her in for a check up and see what their opinion is. I am trying to wait until shes b/w 4-6 months to make the trip for her consultation/testing and to schedule the spay.

At 3 months, it’s definitely possible that you’re starting to see the beginning of puberty. However, your plan sounds about right…I would wait until 4-6 months as well, maybe more toward 6 months.

Some breeds are more predisposed to dewlaps. It often seems to be more of a large breed thing but the smaller buns get them too. Males can get dewlaps but it’s usually due to them being overweight. The purpose of a dewlap is for pregnant does to have an extra area to pull fur from when nest making so it makes sense that a dewlap starts to develop around puberty. Spaying buns will usually reduce the dewlap.

ps. There are no silly questions, only silly bunnies.
