Anyone have any suggestions on home remedies for alleviating sneezing, runny nose, snotty bun? I’ve tried hold him over a sink of hot water to breathe in the steam but it didn’t seem to help. Would vapor rub type of ointment be ok? Anything else? It gets very severe during the spring and summer and since it’s been warmer, it’s starting early this year.

Please note I’m not asking about what to do about it because we’ve already seen multiple vets, have a cabinet full of meds, done CT and multiple cultures, etc, and have been advised that the only options left for testing wouldn’t really be worth it.

I wouldn’t recommend vapo rub, as that would absorb into their skin and who knows if the ingredients are safe. Did antibiotics from the vet not help? Have you and your vet discussed if it may be allergies? Bunnies can have them the same as humans. I remember there is one bun on here that is allergic to timothy hay of all things. Maybe try to see if there is anything you can tell would spark an allergy? Perhaps some sort of thing like they use to clean snot out of babies noses could be used to help clean it out ?

Had nasal passage flushed and didn’t even stop if for a day. What about pure mint oil (eating mint doesn’t help)?

What about putting them in the bathroom, running the shower on hot, and letting the room fill up with steam? If it is allergies, perhaps running an air filter?

I’ve heard of people using LBJ10’s steam suggestion.

Sorry if this is obvious and you’ve already done it, but have you tried switching to a different hay?

He has thick white mucus/snot when it’s severe so I don’t think it’s allergies? Other times of the year he still has runny nose but it’s not severe (you wouldn’t know it except for his paws vs now it’s sneeze x 20, snort like a pig b/c of congestion while he eats). We are on timothy but have tried all oat with no change.

I used to put him in the bathroom while I showered but since he’s so small, the stream doesn’t really reach him on the floor; that’s why I switched to holding him over sink full of hot water steam. That’s not really the same though since he’s uncomfortable when I hold him.

Have you asked the vet about nose drops? I used to rabbit sit a little bitty bunny that I had to give nose drops to – don’t think he had allergies actually, just frequent URI’s and other issues.

My dusky is allergic to hay, we tried changing it but it got worse, he does best on Timothy. Not sure if you’ve tried this but our vet is trialling dusky on Piriton, onto day three now and there’s already a big improvement. It’s just the child’s syrup version
