I really want to give my buns oxbow pellets but I can only find them online and they don’t ship the young rabbit pellets to my state. Do you think it wwild be okay to give my buns the adult pellets made off timothy hay, even though they are under a year old?

Sure. They can go onto the Timothy pellets now. : ). The packets give a guide how to transition them from their current feed to the new one.
Your guys might snub the new pellets at first, especially if they are on a Lucerne based one at the moment.

Mine have stayed on a Lucerne based pellet even as adults. I just give them very limited amount.
We don’t have much else available here unfortunately.

I’ve noticed Peter’s have Timothy hay now. Maybe eventually they’ll start producing a Timothy pellet here…

If they are timothy based pellets can they have more thanks it is Lucerne based? How much pellets do your buns get a day? I think I need tout down on how much my buns get, I’m slowly decreasing the amount. I know it will be good if peters does timothy pellets and maybe some healthier treats and toys!

                  Hi Floppybuns,
Apollo is fed Peters Pellets, and that is what he will stay on. We struggle to get Timothy pellets here in Australia, it sucks for rabbit related things. Becuase Peters Pellets are made of Lucerne, it’s important to only feed a small amount, 1/8th of a cup. I know Robertas rabbits are also on Peters Pellets, and hers are older than ours. It’s going to cost you a lot of money to constantly ship pellets in, especially since they’re very heavy! So as long as the pellets aren’t the main portion of the diet (shouldn’t be anyway!) and your buns receive constant fresh hay and a large variety of vegetables, there actually isn’t an issue just continuing to feed Peters Pellets. I spoke to my vet about it

Jerseygirl, from what I understand is that we don’t really have the right climate for growing Timothy in large amounts and might not have enough acreage to grow enough Timothy for pellet production. I know that it’s harder for Floppybuns and Roberta in WA as there’s quarantine stopping plant and plant based items from getting taken across state lines, wish we had a larger selection.

And Floppybunnies, I think it doesn’t really matter the type of pellets you feed them

Mine have a tablespoon morning and night. I also have found a horse hay pellet that I sometimes give. It’s 99% hay, so not like other horse feed pellets.

Makes sense. Oaten is considered grass hay anyway so i’d prefer to see an oaten based pellet!

Good to know. It’s probably true for SA also. I had wondered before if there would be a restriction on sending willow across the borders. Highly likely.

I edited the thread title, added “in Australia” so people don’t get confused as to why you can’t easily get timothy-based pellets. That is all. You guys seem to have it handled!
