Bun has started humping! Agh! I was dreading the day. He is going to be 4mos on the 27th. I guess its time to check prices on neutering. We are going to get him neutered when my mom gets her tax check. I CANNOT wait! Any tips on neutering?

LOL well giving him as much exercise as you can will help; Also if you can let go any preconceived notions about humping or aggression and just realize it’s temporary and let him do his thing that will help your piece of mind! Anything valuable is best not left on the ground or near it supervision is important for out time because energy levels etc will have him seeking and moving and shaking.

Aftercare especially for a boy is pretty easy, your just going to be making sure everything is spic and span and clean, keep an eye on the incision, have a couple of days (usually three) of medication -he’ll likely be back to his own self in a day with very little pain. And you’ll be counting poops in the box to make sure he’s pooping

              Anything specific your worried about?

He’s an ornery bun, so I can’t have anything out anyway. Haha. I just hope the month flies by! And I’m glad aftercare will he easy and he won’t be in very much pain. (: Hm, as for anything specific, what are some of the main changes after neutering?

Neutering buns usually eliminates a lot of negative behaviors like humping and spraying. Often improves potty habits. These changes will take time to appear, however, since the hormones will gradually lessen after he is neutered.

Do you have an appointment scheduled already? If not, I would call and set one up so when the money comes in, you don’t have to wait another month after that because of scheduling.

Well we will definitely be setting up his appointment! I don’t want to have to wait an extra month. Haha

Do you already have a vet in mind who is familiar with rabbits? This page from the House Rabbit Society has great tips on how to make sure that your vet is rabbit-savvy: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/vet.html

Neutering will definitely lesson the frustrating behaviors, but do be aware that the behaviors will not subside immediately with the neuter. It can definitely be frustrating, but there is hope!

I did check the website and emailed the vets to see about prices. (: one is 143.30. Is that a good price?

That’s a pretty good price. Does that include the fee for anesthesia and pain meds?

I know it includes anesthesia, but I dont remember if it included the medicine.

The other vet is 160.75 for anesthesia, surgery, and medicine. They also regularly spay and neuter rabbits, as well as many of the doctors have rabbits of their own. This is the one I’m going with. (: Bun will be neutered end of Feb, beginning of March. (:
