Recently I’ve been thinking Wilbur feels a bit too boney..I had to change his diet a few weeks ago as he was leaving cecotropes in his cage and making an awful mess, so I deduced he was eating too much of something… Before he was being fed a biiig bowl of pellets a day, one salad (kale, carrot, parsley, coriander) and unlimited hay.

Now I feed him 2 big salads of the same vegetables a day, only one very small bowl of pellets..maybe just under a handful, and unlimited hay…Is this ok?

        He looks skinny doesn’t he?..

        Thanks guys.

How much does he weigh? He isn’t obviously underweight from the picture, but it’s hard to tell.

The last time he was weighed at the vets he was 4 lbs but that was before he lost some weight.

From your pictures he seems to be a silver marten? If that is the case, they’re a relatively small breed anyway and if he’s eating his hay there shouldn’t be a problem with his diet. Is he a big hay eater or not so much?

He’s a mini lop, or holland lop in the US. He eats lots of hay, I have to refill his litter box 2-3 times a day..so maybe it’s just me being paranoid

Wow completely off then, but four pounds is a good size for a mini-lop too! If he’s eating his food, but continues to lose weight, I’d talk to your vet.

If he’s getting boney, you should see a vet.

One of my buns was eating and acting normally but started to loose weight (he’s only 3lbs normally) and I eventually had to rush him to the vet. I was able to tell he was smaller but without feeling his ribs, which you could feel at that time, you wouldn’t have been able to tell. Till this day, we don’t know what happened despite all tests and he’s perfectly fine now.

The best thing to do is to see what a vet says, and otherwise not worry about trying to make them gain or lose weight. Your diet change for cecotropes sounds just fine though.
It’s hard to see but it almost looks like his topline is showing a bit though. Are you able to feel/see his spine? That may just be the light and the pic quality.

If you`re worried about your bun losing weight, my advice is to get a scale and weigh him monthly. That way you can monitor any changes in weight. I weigh my buns every month and record their weights on a calendar. I bought a kitchen scale for under $15.00 that works well.
