So, dusky had a chest infection last week for which he was given the all clear by the vet on Friday. Only now we’ve stopped the Baytril he has started sneezing again, a lot harder than before to the point he just had a big sneezing fit which really scared me. All the fur round the left side of his nose is damp now! He’s still eating, drinking and running around as normal though. It’s gone 8pm here so can’t contact the vet until tomorrow, does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on?

How long was he on the Baytril?

Ten days, the sneezing had pretty much stopped until tonight. He had the last dose of Baytril yesterday.

Oh geez, poor guy! Is there any discharge from his sneezing? It’s possible that the baytril wasn’t able to completely eradicate whatever bug he had.  If his eating/pooping/energy level are normal, I think he should be alright for tonight as long as you can get in touch with a vet tomorrow. Just keep an eye on him.

I second Peppypoo. Once you get a hold of your vet ask them about maybe giving him another antibiotic or another dose of baytril for a longer period of time?

Thanks for the help, I was really worried last night! He seems better this morning (it’s 6.30 am here). He’s a lot more active but still sneezing so will ring the vet when they open at 8.

So I spoke to the nurse at the vets and he’s got an appointment to see the vet at 5.40 tobigt. Poor bunny is gonna hate me, it’s his 4th visit in 4 weeks!

Awww…don`t worry about that. Just give him a nice piece of banana when you get home. Bindi has had several ear infections where he had to go to the vet pretty much every week for several weeks.

I suspect he will need another round of antibiotics to clear up whatever this is. Infections can be stubborn.

                      Good luck at the vet.

All I care about is getting him better really so I will have to put up with the foot flicks etc…he’s not keen on treats but loves coriander so will give him that as a treat!

Maybe ask the vet about doing a culture and sensitivity test.

So it went well at the vets, she doesn’t think he has an infection as he doesn’t have a temperature. She checked his teeth, chest, eyes and ears etc and all was fine. So we now think he has allergies to something! Poor bunny wouldn’t speak to me for most of the night! He’s a lot better today though and is into everything!

I don`t know if he would have to have a temperature to have an infection.

Is it possible his hay is upsetting him? What type of hay is he getting?

The vet gave him a small injection of steroids which has stopped his sneezing. He’s on first cut Timothy hay which he loves. He wasn’t keen on meadow hay as he likes the thick coarse bits in the first cut
