        Evening All,

Buckley survived his first trip to the vet this evening and I’m thrilled to report he has a clean bill of health!  His teeth are fine, he’s not going to be neutered just yet as he’s showing no sign of being a “grown up”, he’s now 6 months and hasn’t mounted anything nor has he sprayed so we’ll wait a bit for that. His eyes and ears are clear and he’s had his jabs.  The lovely vet clipped his nails for him as I have no idea how. This is where my query comes in.  She showed me how to wrap him up in a towel and clip his nails (by the way he hates being touched so he’s very fidgety), but I was wondering, could he have some sandpaper to stand on to wear down his nails? Or is this going to be too hard on his feet?

Any suggestions on how to cut his nails would be greatly appreciated as the thought of doing it myself fills me with dread!

        Many thanks

        x

Do not give him rough stuff to stand on, rabbits have sensitive hocks and you will give him sores. Just wrap him up and clip them like the vet showed you, or get a helper, or have the vet do it every so often.

Hi Stickerbunny, I did wonder that but I thought it was worth asking as I’m very scared about cutting his nails and accidentally hurting him. But when the time comes, I guess I’ll just give it a go.
            Thanks x

Unfortunately, there is no trick to wearing down nails. And, also unfortunately, most bunnies hate getting nail trims. It’s just something that you and your bunny will have to deal with and figure out the best method to get it done.
